Oh great. My next door neighbor just put up a basketball hoop for his kids

Just in time for Spring.
What coud possibly be more fun than a gang of screaming kids pounding a basketball all day in a driveway next to my house? The only thing that could make it more fun will be when it starts bright and early Sat and Sun mornings.

This is going to be a real thrill until the novelty wears off and they are bored with it.

Do what I'd do - take 'em to school. Once they see the old geezer next door can beat their ass up one side and down the other the allure of the game will wear off quickly.

The noise is going to suck. The warm, fuzzy feeling that kids are having fun will hopefully overcome that.

I don't have a tip on how to drive away the nuisance of a basketball net that would allow you to remain out of jail, but if they bring their annoying skateboards with them, go out at night and sprinkle small garden pebbles on the concrete where they skate. These pebbles are extremely annoying to the skateboarder, and can be found at any garden center.

Ah memories. When I was at Va Tech, we had a small group of skater punk-wannabes that would speed along the walks everywhere, irritating the carp out of everybody and ignoring the NO SKATES, SKATEBOARDS, OR BICYCLES ON WALKS rule. My dorm buds and I always carried small rocks or jacks in our pockets. When we heard the tell-tale ka-chuk, ka-chuk of the approaching skater, we just dropped a handfull of the ersatx caltrops and smiled along our merry way.

Falling on a few pebbles > falling on the ground? I think not.

I hear ya'...

My neighbor just got a new Harley...one that he felt the need to rev the engine on last night until around 9:00. Oh well, at least I can still take him on my Buell.

I used to skate everyday for anywhere for 4-12 hours each day. Sand/Pebbles if they are small enough will do nothing but destroy your ride. They will make it much more bumpy without doing anything to prevent you from skating.

And I wasn't speaking of falling because of these, I was speaking of falling on them

Yeah I know. Houses here are too close to one another. I can hear their phone ring and smell what they are making for dinner.

Of course on the plus side, the last time I was blasting my DVD of Saving Private Ryan, the next day my neighbor told me he and his kid hit the deck when they heard the bullets flying.

I think we're close to it here with a trampoline next door that is the source of amusement for screaming little girls until the sun goes down.

Edit to add: The parents also have the nerve to push it as close to our property line and as far from their house as possible.
