Any Australians on,need advice,ebay related,or anyone.(SCAM)?

Hi....i live in NJ and am selling a boat on ebay,23`that will go for over 7,000 under 9,000(so it`s high ticket)...i`v got 2 different guys from australia who seem very interested in winning the bid or even offering me more to purchase the boat..one even called.

i questioned one and was told a boat like this would go for 20,000us in there country...he said if he paid 9,000us for my boat and had it shipped to him for another 5,000us it would be cheaper..he said he would/could wire me the money,.if we agreed.

WTF.....

is this a scam, they both have lite feedback.

Have him wire you the money and then when he calls about the boat, go "psyche!" and hang up on him.

What kind of boat is it?

I don't think they are trying to scam you becuase many, MANY things are just so expensive here. I buy many things from the US and the cost, plus shipping, plus import tax is still much cheaper than buying it here.

Then again it is a country full of convicts...

1989 23`sea ray,clean...worth about 9-10,000 us.

the one guy kinda offered me over the phone 1,000us more then my reserve(yikes).said he needed to contact his shipping company, and will call me tomorrow...

what kinds of wire scams should i look out for???

what are safe bets when wiring...defiantly no paypal?

There have been a lot of scams on used cars and boats involving both cashier's checks and wiring money. They almost all agree to your asking price or even a premium as a way of getting you to let your guard down and think, "Thank God, I found a sucker." The "giveaway" is they are willing to buy the boat sight unseen, and they don't ask "enough" questions about it.

Usually they are out to get possession with "fake funds" that won't clear, or your banking info for identity theft. I would not even consider the offer without speaking to bank about how to make sure the payment is good, and I'm not giving out dangerous information.

I'm roughly 99% sure this a scam.

It smells a bit scammy. Nice thread title, BTW.

Thanks-

ill sit down with my bank Tuesday...well the only way this could play in his favor is if i release the boat before the funds clear...im sure he will have the boat arranged to be picked up as soon as he sends payment...

ill stall the shit out of him,

ill fax sample faxes of the tittles only...

any Aussies wanna chime in????

To wire you money, he needs bank info (routing number, account number, etc). Watch the "identity theft" angle too.

When I sold my boat, I got dozens of these inquires, but they were all months after the boat had sold. They all had an "air of bogus" to them, but it would have been nice to have sold for a premium on my asking price.

Thanks OlDude...

i won`t be giving any bank info....ill contact the bank tuesday.

anyone else have any suggestions.

Pun intended? :D

Check out what the import tax would be on that bad boy in Australia and add it on to the total price. If it's anything like the UK, the tax will be payable on the boat and the carriage fees, but check this. See if it comes close to $20,000. If it does, something's definitely not right.

thanks-

anyone else...

No expert, but I'd try escrow. If you're looking at the prices of boats over here, I would check out boatpoint

http://boatpoint.ninemsn.com.au/port...opDefault.aspx

Will give you some idea of what they cost.

Ultimately, it's up to you whether you decide to trust this guy or not. Personally I'd be a little reluctant myself as international transactions (for something this big) would be a lot of headache.
