LOS ANGELES (AP) A man who set up video cameras near a rail crossing to gather evidence for a lawsuit wound up capturing dramatic footage of a passenger train slamming into a tractor-trailer, authorities said.

Gaspar Medina placed cameras on both sides of the tracks Monday hoping to get video of a train passing through, said David Keith, a spokesman for the Oxnard Police Department, said Thursday.

Minutes later, the Amtrak train carrying 80 people headed to San Luis Obispo from San Diego plowed into the truck, sending debris everywhere.

ďHe happened to be there coincidentally, but we donít get a tape of accidents like this very often,Ē Keith said.

The truck driver was not injured. Two train passengers suffered minor injuries.

In September, Medina was in an accident with another car at an intersection near the tracks, police said. He is now involved in a lawsuit and had placed cameras near the tracks to videotape how the rail crossing gates and a traffic light were working while a train passed, Keith said.

Medina has an unlisted number and could not be reached for comment Thursday.

The tractor-trailer, carrying a load of strawberries, was waiting for a green light at the intersection, and its back end was still on the tracks, Keith said. The truck driver was cited for failing to clear the tracks; she said she didnít see the train coming.

Keith said the video would be valuable to detectives.

I thought streets crossing the tracks got an automatic green light when the gates start going down. Maybe that's just here in Jesusland. I'm sure the enlighted Californian DOT has a much more sophisticated solution.

The truck driver and Medina later laughed about the incident as they shared fresh smoothies.

There is another video of sorts on stupidvideos.com where a reporter is investigation a dangerous intersection and two cars collide in the intersection. Crazy stuff.

they said the lights and crap were functioning properly... seriously? the light turns green seconds before the train comes by and after the arm starts going down?

According to a news report I saw about this video on Fox 11 news apparently the green light was -ONLY- for the people already in the intersecton to clear the area. Not for the vehicles lined up where the truck was stopped. That's why the truck got stuck, and subsequently "struck". But like I said earlier, the intersection is confusing.
