NY Otters ... help!

I bought a ticket to NYC this weekend, but can't find a hotel to save my friggin' life! Seems like the damn Christo exhibit (along with Presidents Day weekend) is killing all hotel rooms.

I've searched: hotels.com, expedia.com, cheaphotels.com, orbitz.com, travelocity.com, and a few others. I've gone directly to Hilton, Starwood, Days Inn, Best Western, Ramada Inn, with NO luck.

I've even posted on craigslist, and the responses I got were great, but all the hotels that were suggested booked.

Any suggestions? I'd like to stay away from hostels and let's try to keep it under $225 a night (arriving Saturday, leaving Monday)

What the heck is a Christo exhibit?

Did you try travelocity.com? Hyatt, Marriott?

Do a google search -- it's these stupid orange gates that are up in Central Park. I think it's the same guy who put those umbrellas up in California ... or was it Japan. Whatever. It's friggin' gay as hell and it's bogarting my weekend plans.

Yeah I tried travelocity, Hyatt, and Marriott. I've been trying all day as well ... hoping that they release some rooms or something.

No, he's a medical student. Cut him some slack ... use the rest to hang him.

The econo lodge in the Bronx seems to have rooms:

Econo Lodge in Bronx, New York

The rest of the hotels seem to be in New Jersey.

Maybe try the Marriott in Downtown Brooklyn, It's just a walk over the Bklyn bridge or a short subway ride into the city.

You're welcome to stay with me but the 7 hour commute into the city will probably waste most of your weekend

Travelaxe finds a bunch of hotels for those dates. A quick glance looks like many of those in Manhattan are available on www.hotelkingdom.com. I've not used, or even heard of, them before.

$225 a night is about right for a decent room here

Check out the Pan American Inn in Queens.

check out hoteldiscounts.com

there is a comfort inn in bay ridge that is near walking distance to the subway

check out the hotel pennsylvania

Wait a minute... you think people are traveling to New York and staying in hotels just for the Christo gates? I was there today and it wasn't too spectacular.

I can't think of any other reason to be honest. I've been to almost every concieveable website for a hotel room in NYC and can't find anything.

I know you want Manhattan, but I'd recommend the Hyatt in Jersey City via Priceline. It's the only 3* there is in that area and it regularly goes for $48 a night, which is about $60 after taxes. The hotel is right at the Exchange Place PATH station, and it will take $1.50 and 4 minutes to get you to the World Trade Center station where you can catch the subway. It's actually faster to get downtown from JC than from upper Manhattan.

You can come stay in NJ right across from midtown. We have plenty of dead hooker "hotels" for you to stay in. And for your convenience they can bill you hourly.
