Posting signs for "Found Dog" question

Okay, I found a dog last night. Really cool, friendly dog. I'm putting up signs today that I found the dog...

The thing is, I notice that most of the telephone poles, streets, etc... in this area (Glendale, CA) are free of signs. I don't want to be fined for putting up something that isn't allowed. Who in my area should I contact to find out the rules on this type of thing?

Thank you.

Put an add in the paper - it should not cost you anything.....

Place a call to the humane society. The owner might be checking to see if their dog is there.

Their dog is there! I wasn't able to keep it (The person I rent my room from won't let me bring an animal in the house). I took the dog there, but I want to put signs up anyway.

Put the signs up with your phone number and go and take them down after they call. Nobody will care.*

Some cities have websites that post all the civil codes about things like that.

http://www.ci.glendale.ca.us/gmc/index.htm
(I don't have the time to search)

Also, in my town, ads in the paper ARE free for found animals.

Then I would suggest putting flyers up at pet stores. See if Petco/Petsmart will let you hang them up.

If your dog is gone, why would you go to a pet store? It's not like you are going to need dog food.

Put flyers on all of the houses near where you live, only late at night, and say on the flyers that you are holding the dog for ransom. That would be fun.

Get the phone numbers of everyone within a one mile radius and call them to check if their dog is missing.

If you don't have it, then put up a sign with contact info for the Humane Society where you left it. That way, if there is a punishment for posting said sign, it's not on you!

Win, win!
