I think I have OCD or ADD or one of those "d"'s

What do you call it when someone is addicted to too much activity or hobbies. In addition to the Home Theater DVD collecting, I do the martial arts; 2 karate classes per week, teach two more, plus 2 - 3 Jiu Jitsu classes. I treadmill every morning, weight train every evening. I love fixing up the house; I finished the basement, built 1600 sq feet of deck space, am replacing all my doors with new ones. Looking to redo the kitchen with all new cabinets, appliances, everything. The kids rooms need paint and carpeting. I love wood working. I started building chairs and benches, and other easy projects. I now subscribe to several woodworking magazines and am looking forward to more elaborate projects. I always take a weeks vacation every year just to do a big home improvement project. I recently joined the Special Police. A few evenings a month I go out and assist the town Police with special assignments, prisoner transfers, stuff like that. Now I'm calling ads looking for a muscle car to restore. I remember when I finished up my undergrad degree, I was taking 3 college classes, worked my fulltime and parttime jobs plus was on the school board of my kids' school.

Am I looney? Or is everyone really busy and I just felt like whining?

It is SDD. (Suburban Dad Disorder)

SDD is characterized by four (4) or more of the following:

1) Overly active in children's lives to a point of being "that dad"
a. Fundraiser is your middle name. Your kids always raise the most.
b. The science fair renamed the prize after your family...since your kids have won it 5 or more years running

2) Tim "The Tool Man" meets Queer Eye: Insipiration to overhaul perfectly fine rooms in hopes to adding cool new stuff to it.

3) You are on a first name basis with all Blockbuster employees. Their games dept. is your playground, and their movie section is your friday night

4) SUV to haul the kids, foreign reliable car for the wife, and a 'classic' car in the garage for sunny summer days

5) You are in better shape now, then you have ever been. The gym is a second home.

6) You are the captain of no less than 3 'over 40' teams

7) You have embraced technology by owning and being proficient with a:
a. Digital Camera
b. Tivo
c. HT System
d. X-box (it isn't just for the kids anymore!)

8) You cook 50% or more of the meals in your household (this may also include doing 50% or more of the food shopping)

9) Participation and/or planning of "Guys Nights". Sites include: Golf Courses, Fantasy Camps, Home Depot Workshops, etc

10) Chain restuarants expect your reservation on the same friday of each month. (you have to rotate amongst them to keep the family happy)

Rule Outs:

1) Gym attendance by doctor's orders
2) 50%+ cooking of meals....because you are single
3) "That Dad" to make up for being a crappy father
4) Excessive involvement in hobbies (car restoration, sports, etc) to avoid talking to wife or visiting with mother-in-law.
5) Owning technology so kids will stay occupied

It sounds to me like you have plenty of energy and outside interests and enjoy a well-stocked life.

Either that, or you're avoiding your wife.

I wish I had stuff to do like you, JR.

Seriously...you know what I did all day? I laid in bed....all day long...I finally got out of bed at about 9:30pm to make some spaghetti.

Unfortunately, my life lacks anything resembling activity. I am never busy, nor do I ever have anything to do...except for work on my thesis.
