Where's the annual "what are you giving up for lent" thread?

Or have we lost all the Catholics who used to post here? ;)

Anyway not being into the whole giving something up thing I thought I'd take a different approach this year and try to do a quick work out in the mornings when I get up (or you can look at it as sacrificing laziness ;)). So far I'm 0 for 2 though -ptth-

naughty jonny 02-10-05 06:29 PM

I always like the line "I am giving up religion for lent"

kvrdave 02-10-05 06:41 PM

We gave up Catholics for lent. :(

AudioWizard 02-10-05 06:51 PM

I don't do the lent thing, but my gf does. I hate it because she'll give up something like eatting out and i'm forced to suffer.

That's not so bad. She could give up sex.

devilshalo 02-10-05 06:56 PM

Sorry, I haven't been a good Catholic since I got baptized to help mom save some bucks for sending me to Catholic School.

Why? Is she a horrible cook?

adamblast 02-10-05 06:59 PM

I'm giving up my belly button for lint.

krkuhl 02-10-05 07:00 PM

gave up my vices--alcohol and cigarettes (social smoker only so that shouldnt be tough).

in addition to giving somethign up, i usually give something extra as well. for this lent, spend 5 min in meditation/prayer per day and clean a room per week in my apt.

talemyn 02-10-05 07:08 PM

I'm not Catholic and never used do partake in lent, but I decided that I actually like the idea a couple of years back.

This year, it's sugary foods. 24 hours in and it's already hard. :(

Thank goodness for Diet Coke w/ Lime. :D

When I was a little kid I had a security blanket. My mother decided it was time for me to give it up, so she managed to trick me into giving up the blanket for Lent (even we weren't Catholic or even much religious). I guess it's a good thing I gave up the blanket before I got too old, but I thought that was pretty sneaky.

I'm giving up "what are you giving up for lent" threads.

D'oh!

Minor Threat 02-10-05 07:32 PM

I'm fasting 1 regular meal and 2 smaller meals (that divided between the two equal the portion of the regular meal) and trying to volunteer more time to the Parish's needs.

kevin75 02-10-05 07:39 PM

i thought about giving up two things. carbonated drinks and eating out. so far so good on the cokes but eating out is going to be limited instead of eliminated due to my hectic schedule.

Tommy Ceez 02-10-05 10:28 PM

I quit smoking a while ago, but its gonna carry over into lent. I did miss ash wednesday though.

Josh-da-man 02-10-05 11:09 PM

Gay sex.

So did I - my mom's pissed because I am the only one in the family who didn't go. My wife even brought our five-month-old daughter to mass yesterday morning and I had to hear about all night long when I went to pick her up from my mom's last night.

The wife and I are both giving up soda. I was going to give up all carbonated beverages, but then I had a reality check and thought I was being completely selfish - the beer industry needs my support.

DVD Polizei 02-11-05 12:13 AM

I'm having lentl soup. Does that count?

Tarantino 02-11-05 03:43 AM

I'm giving up being an asshole.

Just kidding.

Jackskeleton 02-11-05 05:27 AM

I gave up religion. ;)

namja 02-11-05 08:19 AM

Pizza. For the whole month of February.

JEStinson3 02-11-05 08:25 AM

Im giving up fast food. I started early, so I'm already 5 days in. In addition to eating better, I've noticed more money in my wallet too.

I'm doing the same. It's going to be tough because they are all around where I work. All within a one mile radius - McD, BK, the Bell, KFC, and Wendys.

Sucks for me.

I also missed Ash Wed. I'm kinda dissappointed in myself though cause I haven't been to church since I got married this past July. I always tell my wife that we should go but then we end up just hanging out at home.

Jackslade 02-11-05 10:39 AM

I am not giving up anything, but will be eating more fish sandwiches.

dick_grayson 02-11-05 10:49 AM

I'm giving up all hope of having a normal and healty relationship.......

.....but just for lent.
