How long for a raise?

So I just started a new job 6 months ago and at the beginning of this year we had salary and bonus reviews. Got a bonus , but he didn't even mention a raise. I realize 6 months may be somewhat premature for a raise, my concern is I think raises are only considered once a year and a year and a half seems too long to me. I am going to go in tomorrow to discuss things with my boss to make sure. Any advice, experience, wisdom?

Wait a year unless your job description changes substantially (and in a way such as to reasonably justify a pay increase).

It probably depends on how much leeway your boss (supervisor/manager) has been allowed. Sometimes managers are told that raises are to be given once per year only at annual review time. Probably depends on the company. I was at my job about six months before getting a raise. That was probably because I started at entry-level salary right out of college. After a few months on the job I guess they realized my value. I have never asked for a raise, but I'd suggest you don't after only 6 months (if you are even considering asking). If you are going to ask, you better be well prepared to explain why you deserve one.

umm...i'd be real worried if my boss promoted me for that reason. for some reason, i'd think twice before picking up something on the ground.

I could never be a chick. I'd just sit around the house all day fondling my breasts.
