That is besides Jeff and how ago did you find this site? What is your story?

My story:

When I traveled for a living in finance I would sit for several hours and surf the internet and came accross this wonderful site. After finding the site I started to order DVDs like candy. Within the first 3 months I had over 100. I managed to have my company pay for them...hehehe

I remember the good old days of Bigstar where Tarzan only cost me $2.48 shipped. The good old day.

Well that is my story...what is yours?

joined in 2000 because this was where all the columbia house code information was. my first post was a list of "Good, Bad & Ugly" CSRs that were categorized by their likelihood to give you your membership number over the phone (this sped up your ability to open and close accounts quickly). I can't believe i remember all that.

Oh it is a sad tale about winning an ebay auction on how to get cheap dvds, etc. and part of what I "won" was information about this site and others.

I was such a rube of a n00b.

I was designing a site for someone back in '99 and they gave me this site as a reference of what they wanted theirs to look like.

After buying my first HT system and tivo unit I started going to avsforum and tivocommunityforum. I found a link to here from one of those sites when I was interested in building my DVD collection (mainly via the columbiahouse forum).

Wow. I had to click on my own profile to see when I joined and it was exactly 4 years ago today!

IT'S OUR ANNIVERSARY! What'd you get me?

I joined after lurking for some time in the hot deals and dvd bargains forums. I didn't even look in other for a long time. My friend kept getting these great deals on dvd's and he told me he got them all here. So I checked it out and became enamored with the then-called "other bargains" forum. I took advantages of all the freebies back then. I actually joined so that I could type "Thanks myster x." It was all downhill from there.

Did a search for "reel.com coupons". Came to this place, and FIGHTDIVX.Com.

Five years? Shit. DVDTalk has changed how I feel about movies, changed my socialibility (for the worse) and is essentially responsible for my self-employment. Really? DVDTalk has changed my life. But I can't figure out if it was for better, or worse.

Thank you, and I hate you.

i joined up a few years after DVD came out, but just before the mass mainstream move to DVD. i originally joined to get info on the movies, release dates and dvd in general, and ended up hanging out exclusively on the otter farm. i don't even go to the other areas at all anymore. i haven't posted much lately though.

found it through a link at bargainflix. this was back when there were always good deals and msiprices. joined for the dvdtalk forum and the bargains forum. our DVD spending has since dwindled down quite a bit...now I mainly visit for the stories in other and the tv talk forum. I rarely visit the main dvdtalk forum anymore and bargains is just depressing

Wandered into the DVD Talk forum looking for some information about DVD SE's about a year and a half ago . . . had to join in order to post my questions (side note: all of the original movies that I was asking about, with the exception of one . . . Hoosiers . . . will have all finally had an SE release when Malcolm X comes out this year ).

I eventually stumbled into Movie Talk after some of my threads got moved into it by mods and finally found Otter when I followed the "Otter Droppings" link Groucho's sig.

I stayed after getting sucked into the great Otter Crayon thread.

Edit: Well slap my ass and call me Shirley . . . just found out that a Hoosiers CE is coming out in March. I think that just leaves Yeallowbeard as my only unaccounted for DVD.

The arm with the knife is missing in that picture. Couldn't do a good enough job photoshopping blood on to the knife? And you used to be so great at it...

The lack of Jules anywhere sucks.

Anyway, I actually joined here out of boredom in late August of 2001. I still post here out of boredom, three and a half years later.

God damn. Putting that into perspective - That I've been here for three and a half fucking years - Is saddening.
Better than six years, I guess.

Two and a half years from now, I will read this post and be honestly saddened....

I bought my first DVD Player, the Apex-5201 from Comp USA in April 2002. I think it was $59.99 after MIR or something like that. I didn't buy many DVDs until a thread at Fatwallet.com in June 2002 about Blockbuster's Buy 2 Get 1 Free sale. I bought like 20 pre-viewed DVDs (most of which were $9.99 so basically 3 for $20 + Tax). Then I became hooked because I was buying so much useless crap at Fatwallet cuz they were "good deals." Someone there or at Anandtech mentioned DVDTalk and I found the Bargains Forum. Then I found out about The Clubs Forum, then Talk, then Sports, etc.

I only started posting in Otter during June or July 2004 (it was during the pre-election for Otterville President).

I've been hooked ever since.

It's hard to believe that I've accumulated almost 900 DVDs in slightly over 2.5 years. Actually, I had a lot more but I've sold a bunch and traded in a lot to Blockbuster.
