Just a prevention for all fellow dudes and dudettes:

As of today, you must have your headlights on if your wipers are on.
No need to get unnecessary tix.....

Yeah I heard this on the news the other day. I always drive with my lights on in rain anyway so no big deal.

Hmm...thanks for the info.

I guess they can add this to the "turn on the wipers when it's raining" law....

law came into effect jan 1. here are a few others

Bedroom privacy: It is a misdemeanor to film someone in a bedroom without their knowledge. SB 1484 by Sen. Dick Ackerman (R-Irvine).

Internet piracy: Anybody sending copyrighted movies, video games or music via the Internet to more than 10 people must include the sender's legitimate e-mail address. Violators face fines of up to $2,500 and a year in jail. SB 1506 by Sen. Kevin Murray (D-Culver City).
umm...i'd take the $2,500 fine over the MPAA's fine anyday

Mexican trucks: Commercial, heavy-duty trucks crossing into the country from Mexico must meet U.S. emissions standards starting in January 2006. AB 1009 by Assemblywoman Fran Pavley (D-Agoura Hills).
yeah, and the emissions standards for commercial trucks are so good that you can see nice black plumes whenever one goes by.

Shoppers: Stores must charge the lowest price posted, advertised or quoted for an item. AB 1721 by Assemblyman Paul Koretz (D-West Hollywood).
does this mean that they have to honor misprints?

Spyware: It is illegal to intentionally install computer software known as spyware, which can collect personal information, disable anti-virus shields and otherwise disrupt a computer's function. Though the law prescribes no punishment for violators, private citizens can sue for actual damages. SB 1436 by Sen. Kevin Murray (D-Culver City).
umm...well, good in theory...

That has been a law here for quite a few years. I don't even noticed anymore because I have daytime running lights, even when I didnt I always turned my lights on even before the law was passed.

yeah, but there's no provision for a product all of a sudden becoming OOS for the duration of the sale. not that that would ever happen

So if your wipers are on intermittent, can you turn your headlights on and off in sync?

So will future cars sold in california automatically kick on the lights when the wipers are on?

What if it's a nice sunny day and a big o' bug splats on my window and I turn on my wipers to clean it all off... do I have to turn my lights on as well?

I need answers!

Hmm. Does this mean that car dealerships can't negotiate prices? If a dealer quotes one price after haggling, do they have to quote the same price for a similar car to someone else without haggling?

That's because the police officers don't want to have to get out of their cars when it is raining unless it is more serious than a low-grade moving violation.

So, what if you are just washing your wind shield after a bug collision, you have to turn on your lights for 30 seconds??

Serious? What if your car doesn't have a passenger side airbag?

Anyway, with regard to turning on your lights when it's raining hard enough to use windshield wipers, it really is a good law, in the rain a car with it's headlights on is much, much easier to see than one without. Illinois has had this on the books for 5 or 7 years or so, there's probably 90% compliance.

I've never heard of a ticket being written for not having your lights on, but I can see it come into play in the event of an accident (if your headlight bulb breaks, they can tell if it was on or not at the time of the accident, something about if the filiment is intact or something like that, don't remember the exact details).
