Car people: How legit are the Slick 50s, Restore, Fuel Injection cleaner products?

I was browsing the automotive isle at Wal-Mart today and was thinking. I wonder how legit all these products are. I know the Octane Booster is basically worthless.

There are tons of these products. I'm curious as to what products are legit and worthwhile purchasing. I did pick up some high mileage Castrol GTX today. I've read a little that says some of the "high milage" oils can make a difference. I really don't know.

So what are your thoughts on these products?

My owners manual specifically says don't use additives like Slick 50 because of increased phosporous levels that screws up the emissions.

I use the Chevron Techron cleaner whenever I have an oil change. I do notice a slight improvement in performance afterwards.

Most of the products are akin to snake oil since most gasolines today are designed to burn cleanly and already accomplish what some additives claim to do. If you use a higher grade gas and take good care of your car, you really need not worry about it.

Most of the injector cleaners are alright but the additives are a gimmick.

I've used that Prolong stuff in a few cars and it seemed to improve things a little bit... and my erection lasted longer too.

I used the Engine restore a couple times in my old Fiero but that had 200k on it. I never noticed much of a dif.
