Serious Medical Question: Do your Boogers smell funny and or strange?

I've been smelling something weird for around 6 months now.

Now I don't have bad breath (so it's not that), but try as I can, I can't describe the odor, but it's weird and it's always there, in my sniffer.

I thought for a while it was the cholesterol seeping out of my chest but that was later ruled out by my Doctor as being pretty much impossible. (Thank Gawd!)

But now, I'm on the case again (because the smell is still there) and this time I'm going the nasal route and think although I blow my nose on a regular basis, I am somehow, Booger Impacted.

Is there such thing as a sinus rinse or nasal enema I could use that contains a deodorant?

Could that be the source of the smell?

What do you know about it?

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks everybody!

Paul

...and here I thought the first response would be:

"Get your nose outta people's butts and problem solved!"

(insert brown nose smilie here)

There was a dude I knew many years ago who said he had a nightmare about how in the dream he started picking his nose but he didn't stop there and continued picking until he had removed most of his sinus including his pallet!!!

You could have rhinitis (inflammation in the nose), nasal polyps or sinusitis. Did you or do you smoke, and/or do have nasal allergies?

No smoking (for like 20 years) and no allergies.

Well, I DO have hay fever from time to time (but nothing serious, though...).

I was thinking more along the lines of the Homer Simpson syndrome. Any crayons missing?

Did you have a cold recently? And did you use any nasal decongestants?

So obviously, you've asked others around you, and they can't smell what you are describing?

tek, this is a good time to start a collection. Just get a nice piece of clean white posterboard, and deposit your findings onto it. label accordingly. show to relatives. and small children.

FP: No.

The closest I can come to actually describing it is that it smells kinda like grease or something burned, but that's not really it.

If it smells like something burning, you should see a neurologist. You could have a brain tumor. Seriously.

I was just going to say the same thing. That's a BIG red flag. It could also be a form of sensory epilepsy called Olfactory Seizures.

This is actually not something to be taken lightly. See a doctor. now.

FP & Brizz: I'd like a third opinion so I'll ask my Doc about it, and thanks for taking time out to give me the info.

As I sit here and write this, I can smell a well seasoned steak.

On a lighter note, maybe it's a side effect to some medication I've been recently taking.

THEEK!

Nope. I don't have (or of late have had) any headaches.

I've been taking Norco (10/325 for like 7 months) and have recently had two epidual injections in my spine (up by my neck) for a herniated disc and pinched nerve & or nerves. The last one was just last Thursday and after I got home I noticed that the left side of my neck, shoulder and left arm looked all sunburned and was really hot to the touch.

SMELLY THEEK

It could be related to the epidurals....but I would bet money that it is something neurological....I don't imagine the hydrocodone would cause it.
