I got Cable Modem Today!!!!!

I have finally entered the 21st century. Goodbye free AOL (I called in every month to cancel but they would never let me cancel )

I always used to surf Otter at work but could never do it at home cuz dialup was sooo slow.

I got Earthlink which uses Roadrunner's service. $19.95 for the first 3 months, $41.95 thereafter.

Now MJKTool can't make fun of me anymore....well he can obviously make fun of me but not for using AOL.

I'm wondering when other Otters first got their highspeed Internet?

I share a broadband connection with my flatmate (first 256K DSL, then 3 Mb Cable modem). He uses AOL via TCP/IP, even though he has an always on connection. I tell him, cancel AOL and just use the cable modem and get use the Comcast mail addresses, save yourself the 30 bucks a month (their reglar fee plus the fee for using a checking account). He adamently refuses, says AOL is good enough for him. Go figure.

I had ISDN for about 5 years then dialup for a year. In 1999 my cable provider offered internet. I jumped on it. I had to pay $200 for the modem but the service was only $25 per month. Less than the cost of my second phone line and ISP costs. Now they give use of a modem for free but charge $50 month. The service is still good though.

Counting college I've been on broadband since '98. I think I'd give up hot water before going back to dialup.

Cable since 99 would never go back to dial up. Welcome to the club.

I've had cable internet for over 2 1/2 years now. If I had to go back to dial-up at this point, I'd probably have to give up on the internet.

You should tell him to at least look into AOL's 'bring your own access' plan. I'm pretty sure they have one for only $10 a month.

Fortunately for me...

...I will be getting Comcast Hi-Speed Internet soon!

Of course, I'm still waiting for my brother to build up one of his "used" computers (a machine with an Athlon XP 1500+ CPU and 1 GB of RAM) so I can set it up under Windows XP Professional (SP2) for cable modem access.

First experience with "broadband" was in 1996 or so with my friend's ISDN line. It seemed so fast!

Got actual broadband in '98 when I went to college. I haven't used dial-up willingly since.
