Ever been so angry that you later got sick from it?

I've heard somewhere that anger kicks the Hell out of your immune system, and I believe I'm living proof.

I gotta tell ya, I got so P.O.ed the other day, I nearly, literally, *POPPED* (aka: exploded) because the pressure I felt from it was so unusually strong.

That mixed with the knowledge that you can't just duke it out like in the good ol' days without the threat of a lawsuit (especially if you win) pissed me off even more. So much so, I internalized the anger and later actually got physically sick over it, and am still getting over it today.

I'm embarrassed to admit that I don't have better control over my anger (as it were) but sometimes (not unlike Popeye) "I can only stands so much, and I just can't stands no more."

I really don't want to hurt anyone honestly (physically or otherwise), and as much as I might dislike the subject of my anger at the time, I've got this Crazy Supernatural Love for them (my would be enemies, if you will), and if they needed help, such as a blood transfusion or whatnot, I'd be there for them.

(I say Supernatural, because my natural response is to kick arse & take names, but try as I will, I just can't bring myself to do it. Not to mention it really upsets Treesa, and she doesn't in any way need or deserve that.)

But, I am not totally without remedy. I mean, if there ever was a reason to grow up in yet another area of my life, it's her.

After all, because of her (with the help of the Lord in my particular situation), I actually stopped smoking (and ruining all of her clothes with nicotine stains and the smell of stale smoke), and using drugs (limited to weed, but letting everything else take a back seat if I didn't have any), and drinking like a fool (finally realizing that I wasn't an alcoholic & getting drunk was a choice & decision "I" made, understanding that the booze wasn't the problem but my childish mind set with regards to it was, and that I wasn't helpless but had total power over it, and now can enjoy a couple beers or kickers if I want (and whenever I want), without having the fear of, or need to get drunk or lose control), and to think all this took place in one moment, one day, because I made a decision to change and sincerely meant it, for her.

So, I suppose I'm coming out of this latest episode (and hopfully this time actually learned something from it), and the next time I get P.O.ed, I've got to remember to put Treesa's peace of mind before my selfish need to blow my top.

So, ya ever been so angry that you actually got physically sick over it?

THEEK!

(Thank You fnordboy, for that anger-triggered, hulk-like edit king smilie. & )

Maybe the anger is keeping you alive. Check your neck for 'anger bumps' or the local comic book store for a mag based on you.

To answer the question, I don't think I have ever been sick from getting angry.

When I'm angry I usually cry. Whenever I cry a lot I get sick. So yes, it has happened. I usually just get one helluva a headache though.

There was one time when I got so angry, that I turned green in the face. People started running in all directions, probably because they thought I'd spew all over the place.

In fact, here's an artist's drawing of how I looked that day:

i was very mad after a 7th grade basketball game i played in, many moons ago. so mad in fact that i kickeda chair, that proceeded to about 15ft. no one was hurt. the next day i was called into the principals office and he asked me if i knocked over some chairs in the locker room. i told him no, and that was that.
hey, i didn't lie to the guy. i've got much better composure over myself these days.

Yes. If I get really mad or upset, I puke. It doesn't happen all the time, it has to be BAD. I think we should still be able to at least take a couple swings at someone. I can think of a few times that would have made me feel a hell of a lot better.

I haven't had it go to the extent of puking but I certainly have had other physical effects of getting extremely angry or having a very high stress situation. I get sick to my stomach and get the above illustrated diarrhea.
I think part of my thing is that I have Crohn's Disease and stress aggravates that. It doesn't help that I have a high stress job. When I get so angry at someone that violence is appealing I just picture myself in jail and that helps me to contain it. Two people that caused me to use that method were my wife's ex-husband and an abusive boyfriend that my daughter used to have.
I did however threaten to kick both their asses and that fortunately persuaded them to keep their distance from me.

Heh, no. I was looking for a shot of Homer popping the 'anger bumps' out on his neck. I couldn't find it, so I went with a shot of Bart's comic 'Angry Dad'.
