How do you take the dreaded 'cold blast of water' when you start the shower?

When I take my shower, I'll get in and adjust my temperature to a nice warmth from the drain spout. Once I activate the shower, a blast of cold water comes out before it even thinks about warming up. I don't know about other people, but I despise this. Generally, I'll try to get out of the way of the spray until it gets to my desired temperature.
I realize that I could just stand outside of the shower and start it that way, but it's a bit tougher to gauge the right temperature with my hand instead of my legs or feet. Not to mention wasting a bit more water than I already do.

So how do you handle it?
Janet Jackson - hiding out in a pocket of safety until stepping out.
Godzilla - taking it from wherever it hits you, but letting loose a roar befitting a monster rudely awakened from his sleep.
Jenna Jameson - right in the face, loving it every time.
Ashlee Simpson - fire it up early, and jump in after everything else has been running for a minute.
Twikoff - doing it over and over again, as many times as you can.

My hot water heater is on the immediate other side of the wall from my shower, so this never happens to me.

Hilarious options.

I am Ashlee Simpson. Start it, take a pee or shave, get in when it is already warm.

Nice options, but I just put my hand in front of the shower head when I first start it to block the water until it gets warm.

This is one of my biggest pet peeves. I generally mix it up and do various options, like the Janet Jackson or the Ashlee Simpson; if I am still half asleep, I do the Godzilla.

My shower water takes 10 seconds to reach full temperature, so I usually snag a towel from the closet, turn on the shower, hang the towel on the hook, look at my face in the mirror for a moment, then hop in without fear.

Totally Ashlee Simpson. There's no way I can take that first cold blast of water.

I just turn it on and once it warms up the sound will change slightly and I'll see steam. Time to jump in!

I have a stall shower with the single handled water tap. I know the precise location to turn it to. I then wait about 20 seconds and jump in. So....Ashlee Simpson.

File that away under "things I'd never thought I'd say"

I wouldn't have imagined people would get in the shower before turning the water on. The thought seems very strange to me. So to answer the question, before I get in. (by the way, this was a pre-typed message)

Where I'm at now, the water is warm instantly, so that's great!

That's what I do in showers that also double as bathtubs. The shower I use now is just a shower, so I guess I do the Ashlee Simpson.

I think I'm Janet Jackson, but I'm not sure. I just turn the water on, and move to the back of the stall before the first blast hits. Then I wait a few seconds and move into the spray.

BTW, Quite possibly the best poll options I've ever seen. Kudos!

Turn on the water, shut the shower door, let it warm up, stick hand in, adjust temp, then get in.
But you're right, your hands are a little less sensitive, I believe, than other places, so you might still get a jolt. If I had to, I'd get in, aim the showerhead away from me till it gets the right temp.

When I was younger, it was Godzilla all the way. It was the only way I could ever wake up Sometimes I wouldn't even turn the hot water on at all.

Now I am a big wuss, just call me Ashlee. Cold water hurts

I'm a Janet. I usually aim it down to my feet and move to the back. It takes but 2 seconds to warm up, but yeah, I dread that cold shocker. Methinks this is a good way to really wake up, but I don't like it.

Count me in as an Ashlee.

This may be the single largest incidence of Otters identifying with Ashlee Simpson . . . and I doubt we will ever see it again.

As much as I wanted to say Jenna Jameson, I'm going to have to go with Ashlee Simpson .

I have one of those shower thingies with the cable that you can move all around, so I just point it towards the wall away from me
