This is completely dependant on where you live and what type of care it is. My 3 year old goes to pre-school. The whole ordeal is ran out of a womans house locally here. She has 12 children and one other employee. All meals are provided and her hours are 7-5. She's state certified and regulated. Our rate is $85/week. Which is very cheap IMO. While living in NoVa is was $150-$200/week. So I was astonished how much different it was here.

I'd do for eight dollars for the night and 3 popsicles out of the freezer.

I currently live in NoVA and I pay $240 a week for my 9 month old. What sucks is having to pay for daycare regardless of if they are open or not. That concept still hasn't settled with me yet.

We pay $136 a week for our 11-month old - 9 hours of care with meals provided.

It's worth it.

Depends.

I worked for a daycare/preschool for a few months. Because of state laws there is a limit of children that can be there. What that boild down to is, whether your child is there 3 hours a week or 40, the rate will be the same. Also, if the daycare closes for a day because of owners birthday, death, etc you may be stuck without another resource. However, this is probably the best way to go for regular childcare.

If you have a college in the area, and depending on the times you need care, you may want to look into a student. More one on one care and less expensive. However, less reliable.

Don't feel bad. Our's is closed 4 weeks a year. Three of which we have to pay for. Also she closes at 1pm before holidays. She's a great teacher as is her assistant. My son LOVES it there so that in iteself makes up for that annoyance.

Dude, I think you need someone a little older to watch your kids! 11 month olds aren't even potty trained!

Daycare and babysitters are two totally different things. We pulled our daughter out of daycare and found a private individual to watch her. Daycare (4 years ago) was $135 a week or so (40 hrs) but we paid this woman $225 a week. (It came out to $5.62 an hour and we paid her only for hours she was working.) It was more money but nice knowing she was with someone that cared about her and got to go places.

I don't know what you should pay, I do know that when you drive her home that if you pull the junk out she'll be all over it. At least that's how it works in the movies I have.

Really? The regular is $5 and $6 is pretty common too. Not that a dollar makes much difference...
