Trip Report: Greektown Casino Poker Room (Detroit)

While visiting my parents over Christmas, I was able to check out the somewhat new Greektown Poker Room. It was my first time ever playing at a cardroom/casino and I didn't know exactly what to expect.

I went there with a good friend of mine who has been playing a bit on Party with the free 75$. He is a smart guy, but is still relatively new at poker, and therefore isn't nearly as talented, skilled, and disciplined as I am (that was me trying to be funny).

I'm not quite sure what all to include in a trip report... so i will include some and exclude some at my discretion.

I got up early (9:30AM!) and headed to Greektown, which is located in downtown Detroit, about 30 minutes from my house. We got there and put our initials on the list. We were told it would be about a 30 minute wait, but about 2 hours later we had seats at some 3/6 tables.

3/6 was the lowest limit they were spreading. 3 of their 16 tables were 3/6, then they had 5/10, 10/20, 20/40, some 50-100 buy in NL tables, and then a unlimited buy in NL table.

The play at the 3/6 was for the most part bad. As the day went on, normally about 1/3-1/2 the table was decent, with real bad players coming and going. There was one woman who played for a couple hours and continuously 2 paired her extremely low cards.

I did fairly well, going +118 in about 7 hours. My buddy went -96 in the same time span. I feel i played pretty well, but also got some great cards. I got AA 3 times (held up twice) and got jacks to hold up the two times i got them, once hitting quads.

All in all I had a great time and can't wait for atlantic city next month.

I'd do a trip report on my visit to Morongo, but there's only so much you can say about food poisoning.

It's nowhere you wanna be when you got stuff comming outta both ends.

About 20 minutes away from Palm Springs. Full casino/hotel. Plasma screen TVs in the rooms. 14 poker tables spreading all kinds.

Stay away from the buffet.

Hey moorehed, did you just play the cards or was it obvious when people were bluffing you and for real?

a little bit of both. there were several real bad players throughout the day who i played much more liberally than the guys i could tell were fairly solid.

i got caro's book of tells for xmas and that actually helped some. i hadn't read it all when i went, but i was able to pick up on a few things. it's a great read by the way.

Did you get a jackpot bonus for the quads?

I got paid $275 at the circus circus reno poker room for quad 10's. that pretty much saved my night.
