Storm Watch LA - Did I just see this?

Ok, so I'm watching L&O:SVU (it's a rerun) and I see scrolling warning across the bottom of the screen... FOR TORNADOES IN SOUTH CENTRAL?

Severe Weather Alert from the National Weather Service
...TORNADO WARNING NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OXNARD CA 1034 PM PST TUE DEC 28 2004

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN OXNARD HAS ISSUED A

* TORNADO WARNING FOR... SOUTHWESTERN LOS ANGELES COUNTY IN SOUTHWEST CALIFORNIA INCLUDING PALOS VERDES... SAN PERDO... ROLLING HILLS... TORRANCE AND CARSON * UNTIL 1130 PM PST

* AT 1026 PM PST... NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM CAPABLE OF PRODUCING A TORNADO 22 MILES SOUTH OF PALOS VERDES ESTATES... OR ABOUT 26 MILES SOUTHWEST OF LONG BEACH... MOVING NORTH AT 45 MPH.

* THE TORNADO IS EXPECTED TO BE NEAR... PALOS VERDES ESTATES BY 1055 PM PST TORRANCE AND REDONDO BEACH BY 1100 PM PST MANHATTAN BEACH AND 8 MILES WEST OF COMPTON BY 1105 PM PST INGLEWOOD BY 1110 PM PST

WHEN A TORNADO WARNING IS ISSUED BASED ON DOPPLER RADAR... IT MEANS THAT STRONG ROTATION HAS BEEN DETECTED IN THE STORM. A TORNADO MAY ALREADY BE ON THE GROUND... OR IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP SHORTLY. IF YOU ARE IN THE PATH OF THIS DANGEROUS STORM... MOVE INDOORS AND TO THE LOWEST LEVEL OF THE BUILDING. STAY AWAY FROM WINDOWS. IF DRIVING... DO NOT SEEK SHELTER UNDER A HIGHWAY OVERPASS.

THE SAFEST PLACE TO BE DURING A TORNADO IS IN A BASEMENT. GET UNDER A WORKBENCH OR OTHER PIECE OF STURDY FURNITURE. IF NO BASEMENT IS AVAILABLE... SEEK SHELTER ON THE LOWEST FLOOR OF THE BUILDING IN AN INTERIOR HALLWAY OR ROOM SUCH AS A CLOSET. USE BLANKETS OR PILLOWS TO COVER YOUR BODY AND ALWAYS STAY AWAY FROM WINDOWS.

IF IN MOBILE HOMES OR VEHICLES... EVACUATE THEM AND GET INSIDE A SUBSTANTIAL SHELTER. IF NO SHELTER IS AVAILABLE... LIE FLAT IN THE NEAREST DITCH OR OTHER LOW SPOT AND COVER YOUR HEAD WITH YOUR HANDS.

LAT... LON 3347 11850 3346 11829 3399 11821 3401 11849

You won't be so glad when the eye of the storm passes over your house and freezes everything instantly because of all the super cooled air from the troposphere slamming to the surface.

Damn you global warming nay sayers. Damn you all.

As long as I can outrun the cold and get close to a fire, I really don't have much to worry about, do I?

Whimps! I live in North Texas, if we don't get a several good Tornadoes every spring, then SOMETHING is wrong.

Well I say that, but those earthquake things scare the crap out of me!

I've mainly lived in CA but I've spent some years in FL and MS... and I'll take earthquakes over tornadoes... that's some scary shit.

Well, that got super interesting. I'm on the border of Long Beach/Lakewood and some pretty vicious winds started whipping around, looked outside and it super dark and blurry lookin', and it sounded like a friggin' wind tunnel and the rain was going sideways, then poof.... power outage. Couple hours later, power is back up. Crazy.

yup, some crazy stuff there. But I noticed that none of the stations were really doing the whole "storm watch 2004!" considering the whole tsunami situation.

Well, I flew through it back to LAX from Montreal yesterday, and the turbulence was some of the most horrifying sh*t I've been through. The weather reports in Canada said it would be overcast in LA-not hail and possible tornadoes!

Well, a carport in the LA area got hit by a tree that blew over. They were attributing it to either a tornado or "wind burst."

Anyway, while you guys are hunkered down in yer trailers or under cattle for safety from a tornadoes, most of the time CA is enjoying nice 75 to 80 degree weather.

On my street this morning, which is lined with a lot of big pine trees, there were a lot of downed branches and dead pine needles. Nothing too major, but more damage than I've seen since I moved out here, and it is still raining now.

The worst we have to deal with in my part of Oregon is the occasional wind storm in the spring and maybe some snow in late winter. Over all, it's pretty mild around here.

It's beautiful outside now. We had the power go out for a couple hours around midnight when a big rain band hit. We have a lot of flooding down here but nothing like you guys up in L.A...
