Top 12 things i learned from my stay in London!

Now that i have returned to the good ol USA..... here are a couple of things that i learned and noticed in London

12- Very polite. I live in New Jersey and we arent polite for crap. They are so polite in London.

11- Strip clubs suck. The only reason i say that is because they are so expensive...... A lap dance is like $50 and you still cant touch them. Entrance is like $30. Horrible stuff.

10- They are so in love with Robbie Williams. The Singer is a god over there. I like him too but they worship the guy. Everywhere you go.... there is a Robbie Williams poster

9- Its real expensive over there. Geez...... I went to buy juice. A liter and a half of Orange Juice $2.50. Forget that, a regular carton of Tropicana Orange Juice. $3.50.... Not to mention the can of sodas were like $2.00

8- The Scenery. Man... London looked like the suburbs of Manhatten. Clean in all of london. Everything looked nice. But thats it... You can do london in like 5 days. Tops

7- The Pubs. Oh man... this was possibly the best thing of London. But you meet the weirdest people there. And they talk about the most stupidest topics. Geez.... all about work..... BOOOORRRIIINNNNGGG.

6- The tours. The tours were good and very entertaining. I went to the Jack the ripper tour and it was cool. Very long but cool. The Big Bus tour of london was good and very funny.

5- The shopping. The shopping was cool but people go shopping in like designer clothing and even look good to go shopping. I mean... one thing is going to a store in nice cool jeans and a shirt..... but not in suits and dresses..... i just found that odd

4- The tv channels. London has some cool tv. Unedited and commercial free movies. They just showed the premier of Terminator 3 but then again they just premiered the American Pie 2 movie... ...... Oh man but they are hardcore..... They had this show called Ban This Flith and its about old ladies talking about Porno and showing clips of movies....

3- They really hate George Bush. Since i am republican i felt like i was going to be lynched. The BBC channel should have been called the Bush Bashing Channel. During the election, they showed so much Bush hating stuff that they can get.

2- The food. The food sucked big time there. I didnt like it one bit. I used to go to the supermarkets and see large sections of Microwavable foods. They are very big on microwaveble stuff. Humus is like Mayo for them. Even when i went to Subway for a ham salami and cheese sandwich.... they forgot the salami and they put corn in the sandwich. Not to mention, they even gave me Shrimp cocktail and the sauce was barbacue sauce... . Come on.... Mcdonalds was horrible and the only thing good was burger king.

1- The girls. Now this was a tough one.You either have the real skinny girls or the weird looking girls. I might have seen like 3 good looking girls the whole time. When i mean good looking, i mean a full figure and pretty face. Geez, the girls in london were real pretty but extremely slim.....And the way they dress.... oh man..... I could have told 10000 girls that they should have not wore something. If i wanted to see awesome looking english girls, i had to buy the Uk version of FHM. But they are easy, you can pick up a girl at a club easy.... but half the time you really dont want to.... Taking one for the team doesnt even describe it... sounds more like insane sacrifice...... Some girls dress like straight up Christina Agulira wannabes...... not cool.

All in all it was an experience... one place i will never go again...... but i enjoyed the scene and the place i stayed in.....

But one thing i can say....... there is no place like the Good Ole USA..... Long live the USA.

I met some nice people from London in Amsterdam at a bar, partied all day with them and we ended up on the same overnight ferry to England. These kind people took me into their apartment and let me stay there for a week. They also threw a dinner party in my honor and took me clubbing. This is one of the best memories I have of the 4-1/2 months of travelling I did after graduating from college. I have sadly lost touch with them.

Hopefully, you learned to "look right" for approaching traffic too.

My Boston training (look both ways, even on one way streets) saved my ass.

I learned that the hard way.

raven56706,

Don't hang out in London ALL the time you're there. You'll get jaded.

Try Edinburgh.

Basically what you said is right, though. LOL. Style is everything. Shopping is everything. Did you notice people seem to talk. A LOT? I mean everywhere. In the US, you get on a bus and it's quiet, except for maybe a few people chatting, but in London, holy chatterama, everyone has something to say. And yes, it's usually about work or about some terrible thing that just happened.

Depends on where you go. I regularly bought cans for around $0.60. Of course the last time I was there was back in 2000. Some places it was closer to $3 (US), but I just didn't buy it there.

Edit: And people I used to work with went to topless bars that were free entry (with drinks being relatively cheap - not super cheap, but not expensive either).

Yup Nothing like a good old knees-up.

Reason that they're uneditted and commercial free is because of the good old TV license. That's where the BBC gets its funding. $230 (US) per year per household that has a TV receiving capable device (includes PCs with broadband...NOT just PCs with a TV card).

Even if you don't watch the BBC (say you only watch PayTV), you still need to pay Aunty her tax. The ONLY reason you can get an exemption is if you watch NO TV on the TV (and try proving that...about the only way thing I think they accept is removal of the TV receiver in the set).

And people who say they don't have a TV license are viewed as being worth watching by the TV Licensing bureau. They are either suspect or cheating the system.

(Anyway, that little digression is why your BBC movie was uneditted and commercial free).

Which was that? (The place you will never go again? London - as a city, or just one part of London that was less than appealing?)

Me, I fully intend on going back there. While it would be almost impossible for me to resettle there, it doesn't mean I can't visit a lot more.

Wow, that was quick. It seems like just yesterday you started a thread about whether to go or not. Good to see you broadened your horizons. So how do they really feel about Yanks?

That is the complete opposite of Japan. I was in Kyoto and Tokyo and they do NOT talk. The trains were deadly silent.

Yep, it's true. The majority of the passengers are busy sending text messages with their very small cell phones. The rest are sleeping.

Did you try 'toothing'*? Apparently it's all the go in London at the moment.

*Picking up complete strangers (for sex) via the blue tooth connection on your mobile phone.
