Is Milk good for you?

As you probably know, milk has gotten some very bad press lately:

http://www.vegansociety.com/content/...g_jul2002.html
http://www.guardian.co.uk/weekend/st...104740,00.html

I have drank milk on and off over the years. I never really could make up my mind if it was worth it or not, or good for you or not. I never really cared for the taste that much, but so many atheletes swear by it.

I decided to give it the proverbial second chance, and did an experiment in the last 2 weeks. I drank one quart of milk every 24 hours for 2 weeks and observed how I felt and looked. For the first few days i thought i was imagining it, but by the end of it I was quite sure that I was feeling fat and bloated and just didnt feel good -

Any milk drinkers in here? Whats your take on it? Some people drink like a gallon a day and swear by it, so , i dont know....

I lift weights and for me, milk is a great source of fat and protein. I think it depends on your goals whether you need to drink a lot of milk or not. Too much will definitely gain you some weight if sedentary.

I don't drink it because it gives me, uh, troubles...

But the kids seem to like it so we go through about 2 gallons a week.

I've always hated plain milk. I can deal with chocolate or Strawberry in small amounts. Anyway, my Father used to make me drink the milk left over in my cereal but now that I'm grown I throw it right out.

With that said and back to your question, It's cow's milk not human milk. The ingredients are meant for calves to gain weight. Not for really for humans. So drinking it isn't as healthy as they claim. There are other ways to get Vitamin D, Calcium, and fat that are much better and healthier.

Plus,

Read at your own risk if you love milk...

Spoiler:
The amount of pus, blood cells, and other crap that's found in milk is disgusting.

My brother goes through about a gallon of whole milk every other day. His skeleton is now pure adamantium.

If we were meant to drink milk, we'd still be sucking out mom's boobs.

I love it with cookies and cereal, but rarely have it otherwise (and don't have cookies or cereal that often, either). But personally, I can only drink skim milk. Otherwise it is just too thick. I'm not a big "thick liquid" guy, whether it be whole milk, thick liquors, hot chocolate, or anything else.

Arnold said it best in Pumping Iron when asked if he drank milk.

"Milk is for babies. You grow up, you drink beer."

He was bullshitting, of course.

Milk is freakin' nasty. Anything that tastes that bad can't be good for you.

A doctor friend of mine refers to milk as "liquid cancer."

I'd stay away from non-soy, non-rice milk if I were you.

I just recently stopped drinking milk all together and i definitely have to say that i feel better without it. It was hard because i love cereal. I actually found a Granola cereal that tastes good with water, so that holds me over.

Giantrobo,

I think I am ready to pass out from your comments on milk.

I am cringing at the thought of it because I know it's kind of true.

Whats even worse is the same thing can be said for cheese which i do eat. Though after your comments, I may be rethinking my position.

Philistines!

No milk also means no heavy cream, no butter, and no cheese!

Heavy cream is #2 on my list of things I can't live without.

God. Most of you people sound like you belong to one of those crazy cults, like veganism, or even worse: the lactose-intolerant. *shudder* I heard that one of them fell of his bike and all of his bones disintegrated. Now he's just a disgusting, gelatinous lump. Don't turn out like that.
