Woman digs up dead boyfriend and drinks his beer

Police: Woman Drank Dead Boyfriend's Beer

PORTAGE, Wis. (AP) -- A woman has been arrested for digging up her dead boyfriend's ashes from a cemetery more than 10 years ago and drinking the beer that was buried with him, possibly out of spite for his family, authorities say.

Karen Stolzmann, 44, was charged Tuesday with concealing stolen property, in a case Columbia County Detective Wayne Smith calls "twisted and bizarre."

Sheboygan County District Attorney Joe De Cecco said Thursday he would determine if additional charges should be filed in his county since the urn was found at Stolzmann's Sheboygan home.

Michael Hendrickson, 27, died in 1992 from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. His family contacted authorities three weeks ago when they discovered his remains had been stolen.

An exhumation revealed Hendrickson's cremated remains - along with beer and cigarettes that were buried with him - were missing from Cambria Cemetery in Cambria.

Detectives searched Stolzmann's home and found her hiding in the shower. The remains, located in her garage, had "identifiable things to make us believe they're (Hendrickson's)," Smith said.

Detective Jay Yerges said Stolzmann and Hendrickson were living together in the early 1990s, while they were both married to other people. The relationship was stormy, with a pattern of alcohol and domestic abuse, he said.

Stolzmann was present when Hendrickson shot himself in January 1992. Yerges said Hendrickson's family blamed her for his death and she was not invited to his services.

"I feel that her motive was spite," Yerges said.

Robbing graves is a felony offense, but the six-year statute of limitations has passed for prosecution. There may be a way to prosecute because the alleged theft was only recently discovered, Yerges said.

-------------------------------------------------------

This chick is crazy! My question is, why were his ashes buried in the cemetery? I thought the point of cremation was to bypass chunking the body in a hole. And what kind of theeking idiot buries someone with beer and cigarettes?

That's right. Last paragraph talks about it, too.

I've heard of pouring beer or liquor on the grave of a loved one before but leaving it in the container? That's just plain wrong!

On the other hand, I have heard of friends recycling the liquor before "pouring" it on the grave... but that's another story.

Edit: I see I missed it by a couple of minutes.

That's one mean bitch! First she drives the guy to suicide, then steals his ashes and drinks his beer-for-the-afterlife. Yikes!

So.... guy kills himself. Family blames live-in mistress. Family buries man with beer and cigarettes. Mistress exhumes ashes of man, along with beer. Mistress drinks beer. Family doesn't discover man is missing until 10 years later.

Still trying to determine the most amazing part of the story.

So, in 10 years the family didn't go the the grave to visit and none of the workers for the cemetary saw it?

Or did the dig up the ashes and take the beer, and then put everything back so it didn't look disturbed?

Not sure if she could even be charged. The crime happened more then 10 years ago, can she still be charged just because they found out about it recently?

Did the family go digging for his beer and smokes, too? I bet they are just pissed off she beat them to it.
And if this was 10 years ago, why was she hiding in the shower?

Yeah. Unless she's one of those woman that just hide in the shower whenever the doorbell rings.

And how did they know she drank the beer? Did she confess that?

And how did the family figure out, ten years later, that the grave was robbed?

Im confused to say the least. We need more info.

edit: And why did a picture of Brintney Spears just appear in this thread???

My brother is buried next to a Hells Angels biker, and his friends come and bring one of those 32 oz Bud bottles and put it on his grave every once and a while, full. They also hang CD's from the tree near the grave like Christmas ornaments.

This story is just bizarre. The whole thing.

Everyone in the whole group sounds like a pack of weirdos. I wouldnt be surprised if the guy shot himself to get away from these people. Maybe he figured it was a better idea then spendng yet another holiday with this grouping.

The family discovers nothing for 10 years? How all of the sudden did they discover it now? Did they for some reason dig up the grave? Why?

Was it their first time visiting in 10 years? Why drink the beer of a dead corpse? How come she didnt have a skeleton cigarette too while she was at it?

Why are the ashes hidden in the garage 10 years later? Why is the Grave Pirate hiding in showers?

We need an update to know more and piece this together. As is, so much just doesnt make much sense.

I'm guessing the story meant to say she set the corpse on fire.

If not, burying ashes in a cemetary makes no sense. Unless it's some odd kind of discount cemetary.

my step dad's ashes were buried in a cemetary in 1997, next to his brother who died in the 70's, there was no plots left near his brother except for his parents (who are still alive), so they just dug up a spot at the end of his brothers grave, and put him there

3 more years and I get to dig him up

If there's a statute of limitations of 6 years, doesn't that mean you can't be prosecuted 6 years after the crime occured, regardless of when they figured out who did it? Isn't that the purpose of a statute of limitations?

"Woman digs up dead boyfriend and drinks his beer."

Am I alone in thinking that reads like a header you'd read in the AICN talkback?
