your first smoke?

I'm still amazed that people will take the time to let the addiction set in.

Doesn't take long. Two afternoons with a hot/cool girl or guy, and you're there...

Nothing special. Did it once in a while when I was drunk in college. Found it to be pretty stupid.

my first i was 12. someone ripped the filter off a menthol and gave it to me... i smoked it thinking that was what i was supposed to do.

i smoked on and off for several years... i smoked about a pack a day for about 2-3 years, gradually cut down, now i smoke hardly ever, but occasionally when i'm out if someone has some and i'm drunk... id say i probably average 1/2-1 pack a month... i can honestly say i don't think i have ever been addicted to cigarettes, even when i was smoking a pack a day... every few months i would quit cold turkey for a week or 2, or a month just to see if i could and it was never a big deal... then id start again...

not saying i dont think people can be addicted cause obviously they can... i just don't think i have been for whatever reason.

Actually, I smoked marijuana before I smoked cigarettes. I started the first when I turned 16 the other a couple months later. I did both pretty heavily for about a year and quit. I was never addicted, though, just got bored and quit.

This is actually one thing I am quite proud of especially now that I have children. It will be one thing that I can look back on and not be a hyprocrite about. Although I can see where an understanding problem can stem if that time does come.

Same. Afterwards never saw the point in smoking cigarettes to get a 2 second buzz.

I tried it a few times but because of my asthma, it was a horrible experience.

It's hard to look cool smoking a cigarette while you're coughing up a lung...

I had my first cig a few months ago. Now I'll usually bum one or two if I'm plastered at a bar. I'm not sure why either. I hate the fuckers.

When I was five or six, I pulled my grandfather's still-lit cigarette out of the ashtray and took a puff. Coughed non-stop for I wouldn't even want to guess how long. Never bothered again. I don't think that incident had too much to do with that, though -- I've never drank or done drugs in the 26 years I've been alive either, and I don't have any one-line childhood stories about those.

My first smoke was a clove cigarette. I was an idiot and thought somehow because they were 'cloves' that they didn't have nicotine in them. Later I found out they had almost twice the nicotine as regular tobacco cigarettes.

I switched to tobacco cigarettes when I stayed a week at a non-denominational Jesus camp and ran out of cloves, so I had to borrow regular smokes off of the guys there.

I now smoke about a half-pack a day, if that. I don't bitch about it like most smokers who constanly say they're gonna quit. I enjoy smoking. It's like sweet, sweet candy heroin.

I smoke about a 1/3 pack a day of Camel Wide Filters. It used to be really bad back when I was working in a warehouse, I think I was at about 2 packs of Marlboro Reds a day.

I coughed, but I didn't cough like crazy (and I accidentally put on the poll where I didn't like it - but I do).

When I took the first puff, I coughed because I didn't know how to inhale right. Of course, everyone is like you have to keep doing it to get it right. So I went ahead and puffed again. Coughed again. After a few puffs I finally inhaled it correctly and it was pure "soothingness" to my throat after that.

I quit for a week or two ( ), but when I started back it was like a small part of ecstasy when that smoke went down my throat. I was so stressed out and puffed and was on Cloud 3 (Cloud 9 being good ole' mary jane of course).

I started in 7th grade, probably smoked almost every day but it never really stuck. Next year I started pot--that stuck for about 20 years, often daily. Not sure why I got a habit of one and not the other. Glad I don't have either habit now.

Used to smoke weed...There seemed to be at least a point to that, never even tried a cigarette. Then one bad experience with Coke and X about 8 years ago and pretty much cured me off everything except alcohol.
