Do we live in a rational society?

here's a link to a website that a dude I used to work with created. I think he'd like some feedback from people other than me, so would you mind taking a look and posting some thoughts about it here. I'll send him the link, so feel free to get rowdy! He ALWAYS likes a good argum...uhhh discussion :-)

http://www.rationalsociety.com

Like I said, he loves the discussion...

That's the wrong question to ask in Otterville.

Just took a look at his site.

Seems it's deemed rational thought if you agree with him. And considering most of his site is rants about his 'perceived' injustices by the current administration, blah blah blah blah... you get the picture.

I had a look. The sentence structure is poor at times and the word choices seem to indicate an author with a history of C+ and B- grades in high school college prep english classes. I got the same impression as darkflounder, the site implies the only rational thought is that which agrees with the author's position. He likes Lego sculpture, though, so he can't be all bad.

Your friend needs a good dose of reality. Bad writing and unwavering viewpoints are not a sign of rational thought.

There is much irony on that website and it has nothing to do with political views.

Hey now, I said guy I worked with.... ;-)

We harped on him a fair bit for this site when he was around... I'm sure he'll love the complete strangers making fun of his sentence structure.

rational discussion

OK, so I got some crap for my sentence structure and my rants on rationalsociety.com. And my friend L&O asked the wrong question. RationalSociety does NOT try to answer whether or not the society is rational. It's just a name.

As to the "blah blah blah" I don't actually care what you think about my "How's the government doing" section.

I DO want to know if anyone agrees with the "What should the government be doing?"

We get into these heated arguments about strategy (tax cuts, war in Iraq) without first discussing what we're actually trying to accomplish. From the NRA's point of view, I suppose, the most important concepts are freeedom and liberty (to own guns, anyway). To liberal groups, maybe providing more (food, housing) to the poor. To others, its a job, or freedom of speech, or having enough food, or minimizing taxes paid.

Point is, what is it individuals want the government to do, or not do? Is there any common ground there?

I want the FCC to designate frequencies and then STFU.

When you look at the level of carbon in onions vs the mating tendencies of the blue whale, it's pretty clear that we either live in a rational society or that a president can only control the bowels of those who are vegan.
