Clive Barker's voice

This weekend I watched the Greatest Horror Moments special on Bravo (which I shouldn't have since there were plenty of spoilers to movies that I'd like to see, but I digress). One of the people making comments was author Clive Barker and his voice sounded really strained, for lack of a better term. I never remembered it sounding like that. Did he have surgery or am I remembering his voice incorrectly?

I don't get it either. Is he british or from the south. It's a mixture of both. He was on Mancow (radio show) last week and sounded the same way.

I wonder when it was taped. I met him at a book signing last month and his voice was pretty rough. It was explained that he had been interviewed for a few hours. He still went through a Q&A session and spoke with each person while he was autographing.

He's sounded raspy for at least several years now.

I remember seeing on television maybe three or four years ago, and he sounded hoarse.

Yeah it sounds bad on the Hellraiser commentary/featurette.

Smoking catching up on him I guess.

That's right. He was on LOVELINE about a year or so ago and his voice was just about gone.

A phone interview he did about two years ago ended with this comment:

"Barker's voice is going. We end our chat and I encourage him to go have a glass of wine. He thinks that perhaps hot tea and lemon is more appropriate".

This seems like a pretty significant problem for him if he has trouble even completing an interview.
