I can't sleep in (and I want to)

I guess I should be thankful I don't have super nasty insomnia, but not being able to sleep in feels like it sometimes. I work at night and usually don't go to sleep until around midnight (that's pretty much the earliest I can go to bed). I sleep soundly all night, but then wake up between 6am-7am. I hate it.
I know 6 hours of sleep could be a lot to interns and new parents, but I can sleep until noon if I wanted to. It's weird because my body just says "wake up" but I feel like crap. A nap later in the day leaves me groggy and sometimes feeling worse.

Anywone have this trouble and have you trained your body to sleep a bit longer? I knew a girl at work who said she was fine with 4 hours a night. Damn. I pretty much need 8 to feel normal.

I know how you feel.

I usually don't get to bed until 3 or 4 in the morning, then get up at 8 to go to school.

This morning I managed to sleep in until 1 pm (18 minutes ago) after going to sleep at 3:30 or so.

I'd kill to be able to just sleep past 9am. I can't even remember the last time I got close to 10am.

Yep, same here. It's hard for me to sleep once the sun is up.

One time I was up for almost 36 straight hours... and I still only slept for about 6 hours. Sucks...

Same here. I just can't sleep past 8:00, even on those rare occasions when I have that opportunity.

Great. It's going to be even MORE enjoyable tomorrow after we set our clocks back... yuck.

On weekdays, I wake up between 7:00 and 7:45 without fail. I keep my alarm set for 8:00 AM, but it only manages to go off a few times a year. On weekends, I usually wake up almost exactly at 8:30 AM, and it doesn't matter what time I go to sleep. That's just when my body forces me to wake up.

I've been wanting to sleep in for the last month but keep waking up after 6-7 hours of sleep, which is pretty good but i've been so tired and worn out lately even if I don't do anything. Think I have mono or something.
