Spring Forward, Fall Back. It's About Time

A couple of days early, but remember, in the wee hours of Sunday morning, we return to Standard Time. Reset your clocks Saturday night or Sunday morning.

For anyone who cares, Russia, Eastern Europe, EU, US, Canada, and Mexico (in observing parts) all return to standard time early on October 31.

The Aussies do it backwards because they're upside down. They go on Summer time.

I love when this happens
sure, we lose an hour of daylight after work.. but that feeling of getting an extra hour of sleep rocks

although.. I have so much vacation time built up (and can only roll 40 hours).. that Im using vac time for every reason i can think of.. Im taking monday off, with the excuse that its the day after halloween

Me neither. But TV start times will be all screwed up for me(WB and cable channels fall back, networks stay the same). Thankfully the ReplayTV won't care.

I will relish that glorious hour.

I most likely will be staying in sat. night...but if I go out...does that mean the bars will be open another hour? I don't NEED to be out until 5am (normally 4am) We'll see I guess.

I still don't understand it. Sucks having to move from Hawaii and trying to figure out the time difference.

I remember a time I went to work an hour early. Stupid DST.

Good stuff. Now I'll be able to actually stay awake without some substance in the morning.

Depends... not here though, cause they say the time change isn't until 2 am but they kick everyone out before then... would think bars would WANT to stay open later and make more $$$'s !

My question is...Why the HELL can't they have made it on Monday. After the Halloween partying, that's the day I'll need the extra hour of sleep!

I'm guessing that it gives the forgetful people one non-work day to figure it out (either by someone telling them, or them being puzzled by the TV schedule being off). Can you imagine if it did happen early Monday morning? How many people would arrive at work at the wrong time?

Do you people actually sleep an extra hour on Sunday when most people don't have to get up at any particular time? Don't most of you just sleep until you wake up regardless of what the clocks say? I do. I like having the extra hour on Sunday for... whatever.

In April I lose an hour of awake time but still sleep the same the night before.

It sucks big time for me. It makes my 7p-7a shift a 13 hour shift. And we don't get paid for that hour.

In the spring, while working the same shift: do you get paid for 12 hours when you work 11?

Yeah, what the hell kind of outfit do you work for? You better get the short day in return. Not only is that bullshit, it's weird.

My body is ready for daylight savings to end before the calendar is. I've had trouble getting up the past week. I spend 45 minutes smacking the snooze button, so I'll be glad to "fall back" that way I will actually wake up on time now.

It's too dark now to wake up at 4:45.

A sheriff's office.

And no, the short day won't really help any because by then we're switching to 8 hour shifts.

Doesn't really matter because the whole weekend is going to go fast. The amount of calls we get on Halloween weekend is staggering.

No way, it gives us an extra hour in the summer time to enjoy the summer sun.

It's a huge hour for us Portlanders trying to squeeze in 18 holes of golf after work.

Thanks to DST, the sun sets at 9:15 or so. WIthout it, it'd set at 8:15, leaving us in the dark for the last few holes!

Exactly, similar in Detroit. However, by late October, the weather is crappy, its still dark at 8 am, and we could bail back to standard time a few weeks earlier, like maybe the first Sunday in October instead of the last. We only have ten hours of daylight, not enough to save. Hell, you have to be careful not to spend it all in one place.
