I've been warned - a 900 lb pumpkin is going to explode outside my home

There are notices posted in my apartment building, which has a side entrance on 53rd Street where David Letterman does his outdoor events.

On Monday, November 1 a "900 pound pumpkin will be detonated". We have also been advised that the NYPD and the NYFD will be there just in case ....

I have this image of my building dripping with pumpkin pulp, and pumpkin seeds turning into mini-weapons as they richochet around midtown Manhattan.

Oh well .... that's life in the big city.

Better still, get CBS to tape it for you. Cause it would be lame if Letterman just continued his pumpkin blowing practices without video.

Is pumpkin a euphemism?

Midtown is actually one of the cheaper places in Manhattan to live.

Weird. Probably 'cause of all the exploding pumpkins.

I'm really lucky - I latched on to a nice one-bedroom apartment in a rent-stabilized doorman building quite a few years back, and as a result I'm now paying about 1/3 the market value. If I ever was stupid enough to move, I'd have to find a vacancy in a slum somewhere to keep my rent where it is now.

It's a great location - I can walk to work, walk to theaters, have about 50 movie screens within walking distance, Lincoln Center is 10 minutes on foot, Central Park is my backyard ... if it weren't for those damned exploding pumpkins!

Could be worse. At least they're not exploding a 900 pound testicle...

Careful, Marty. You might have Otters showing up at your door at all hours every time one of us is in New York...

i know someone who used to live near lincoln center in the same building as Mr.G, the weatherman. He was paying $2500 a month for a studio. He is living in Queens now in a 2 bedroom and I'm pretty sure his mortgage is less.

When my refi goes through I'll be paying $1254 for my mortgage, maintenance, garage and all utilities for a 1 bedroom in Queens.

I was told that the best way to make a pumpkin explode is to first fill it full of water. Then shoot it.

marty888...gotta send ya some hate from FL.

I am not a huge NYC fan in general...but if someone gave me a job and a good place to live...I'd go in a second.

I know a guy who has lived in his same apartment for 20-25 years. He refuses to move because he would never find the kind of deal he has (something like $800/mon...while the places around him go for 4x as much now) He had an iron-clad contract with this little old lady who owned the building. The building was sold but he had a great lawyer, and as long as he maintains the req. of the contract...he can conitnue to live there for $800.
