Well from second hand stories, you can't even get into any casino unless you are staying there. Apparently unless you can show a room card, you won't be able to get in.

A girl I met at college told me Vegas was the best place for New Years and it's a huge party on the strip (when is it not?). But I have no firtsthand knowledge. I would like to go sometime though. Good luck!

Happycamper and I were in Vegas on New Years Eve 2001 / New Year's Day 2002.

I will never ever ever do it again.

They shut the strip off around 8pm or 9pm. Then the crowds gather. I liken it to one 5-mile long mosh pit. Elbow to elbow. Can't walk anywhere.

THen when midnight hits, you can't get into any hotel/casino unless you have proof that you are staying there (room key). This leaves places like Slots-a-Fun and O'Sheas as the only places where people can get in. And of course, those are jam packed too because of this.

Eventually around 3-4am, the crowds are all gone and the street sweepers come by and clean everything up.

Although it is quite fun watching the drunk and unruly get tackled by police time and time again. I just remember it taking me about 45 minutes to walk about 1/4 mile.

What ES and Deftones said..

I was there for the 1999/2000 NYE. Wasn't anything spectacular. Geting a comped room for NYE made it worth it though

I've been wanting to do that for the past couple of New Years, but haven't. Based on the replies to this thread, I think I'll skip it altogether. It doesn't sound to enjoyable. The room rates are way too expensive then, anyways.
