Does anyone else anxiously check things?

For example, when you have a tracking number for a package you want. You know when it's supposed to be delivered, but do you find yourself checking it every hour on top of the hour? or grades, your grades are supposed to be posted by a certain date, but you check anyways, because it might show up early. Or it's Christmas eve and you keep trying to sleep, closing your eyes, trying your best to avoid the clock? Because you know it's only been 3 minutes since you last looked at it. Or even you have a CD burning (imagine in the past when 1x was the only option), it's supposed to be done in an hour, but you just want to make sure... or what about your e-mail, nothing better to do, you didn't have e-mail ten minutes ago, but you might now... let's just check. huh, no e-mail... and so on.

I find that I've been checking the status of my grad school applications every few hours... even though it says the same thing and probably won't change for a few weeks. How to fight the anxiety?

I keep checking the Otter forum for something interesting to read, but sadly, I am constantly dissapointed. I blame everyone but myself.

Yes. Tracking numbers like you said, windows update, the supply of crackers in the cupboard, and DVD Talk threads.

What DON'T I double check (or triple, or quadruple...)

Some examples of constant checking:

*alarm clocks that I just set
*door locks that I just locked
*cat location before I go to bed
*checking to see if my son is in his car seat even though I didn't take him to daycare that day.
*cell phone at the movies (did I put it on silent?)
*clocks and my watch constantly
*email
*my son's crib every night before I go to bed.
*car locks

It goes on and on...

Oh, lightswitches. I push down on them after I turn them off, just to make sure they are off.

I check with some anxiety my back door locks before I leave. Sometimes I will forget and will have to go back in to check them. I know it may not be exactly what you were talking about, but I check them because one time I forgot to lock them and a month later, I discovered charges on my credit card that I never made. I conclused somebody got in my apartment through the unlocked back door, took my credit card, and then put it back where it was before I got home. Been double checking those locks ever since!

My worst weakness is when I'm packing to leave on a trip. I have to open up that suitcase (or whatever else) to make sure that I packed enough underwear or shirts 5 times. In my mind though I know that I can pretty much replace at my destination whatever it is I might forget. It just drives me nuts. I worry the whole way there that I forgot something, and I'm usually right!

I constantly worry that I have OCD. I check every couple of seconds to ensure that I am not obsessed about something

It's definitely a disorder. I do it constantly, as does my partner. I often think we feel off each other, and make the behaviour more ingrained.

I have the opposite impulse: I never check anything.

As I'm wondering towards the bedroom, decked out in my undies, I'll notice that my door is half open, I've forgotten to shut it after coming home a few hours earlier. More often then the average person, I'll arrive at work and discover I've locked my keys in the apartment, or that I can't pay for my beer because I've left my wallet at home. Or that my apartment is so hot because I didn't turn the oven off after cooking dinner tweleve hours ago.

The worst is when you have something listed for sale on eBay. Sometimes I even hit 'refresh' after loading the page just 60 seconds ago. Especially if there is less than an hour remaining.

The locks on the front door will get me out of bed 4-5 nights a week to check them.

I check my fly every morning as I'm walking out the door. The funny thing is that about 20% of the time it's down.

When I have a package due from ebay, I get very anxious and am constantly checking the mail. Don't know why.

Right now I'm waiting on a very important auction to arrive, supposedly it shipped on the 1st. Each day it doesn't show up makes me more and more antsy.

It doesn't help that our mail stop is at the absolute end of our driver's route so if we get the mail before 3pm it's considered an "early" day.
