Anyone here from Boston?

And can tell me about the Mission Hill/Longwood area? Is it an OK place to live? I'm trying to find a temporary one-month sublet through craigslist.org...something within walking distance of the Brigham and Women's Hospital for the month of October.

Is there any other area I should be searching for?

Awesome, what for? (Besides watching the Red Sox win the Series, of course. )

I'm filling in for a co-worker that's out on maternity leave. I'm thinking about being out there the week of October 11-15th

I'll be there this weekend and the weekend of October 1-3. One bonus for you is that you should have October 11th off because MA is one of the only states to take an official holiday for it.

Stay at this hotel, it's fantastic and I got married there last year on October 12th. One of the highlights of the evening was that my family got to meet Derek Jeter, Bernie Williams and assorted others because the Red Sox game was rained out and the Yanks were staying at my hotel.

Interesting. My company is still open on that day, but if it's a legal state holiday, means I'll have jack squat to do.

I thought you're a Yankees hater.

Mission Hill is pretty rough and tumble. You'll probably hear gunshots, but it's where most of the Northeastern U./Art Students live.

I don't know much about Longwood.

Anyway, just looking for something decent around that area. Definitely would be a plus if I didn't get shot while on the way to work at 4 in the morning, though.

Allston/Brighton is good. Newton is nice, but expensive.

Yes, I lived there for years. Mission Hill is definitely sketchy. I would highly recommend being toward Longwood, Brookline, Fenway, or Kenmore Square instead. You don't necessarily have to be in absolute walking distance, as the subway is quite good, especially in that part of town.

We need to hook up when I'm in town.

Are you doing some sort of rotations while in school?

Unfortunately, I'll be working hours that are outside of the T's operating schedule. I'll probably leave around 4 in the morning...most lines don't run until 5, except for the Green Line, which I think runs at around 4:30.

I'll look at those other places TheHistorian recommended (thanks!). Not sure if they're within walking distance, though.

Yeah, I'm doing a 4-week General Surgery rotation at Brigham and Women's Hospital.

Just so you know, practically all of the places that TheHistorian listed are on the Green Line.

FOR THE RECORD

you DON'T want to be living in Kenmore or The Fenway at ALL during October

unless you want to be a part of the biggest party in the history of the world

Mission Hill at 4am - definitely bad juju. Then again, this is relative. If you are used to living in the... less affluent... areas of major cities, it would be no big deal.

Does the program your working at have suggestions of places to stay?

Would bike riding extend your acceptable range? That's definitely possible in Boston.
