Otters in NYC: leaving for the RNC?

Hey all,

Anyone leaving or changing their plans for the coming week? I expect it to be chaos in and around the Garden and don't intend on going near it.

plus, still not sure if I'm going to the rally on Sunday either.

anyone?

i'm heading up to boston shortly for the weekend. my office is right by grand central, so i'll be heading down to the protests each day after work. i think sunday is gonna be crazy, because everyone is showing up to central park anyway.

David Cross is heading up an alternative comedy show to run opposite the RNC at the Beacon Theatre. This is because Clear Channel owns like every other venue in the area and is pandering to the RNC.

I don't live in NYC, just thought you guys would like to know that.

Like EVERY snowstorm and major event, the fallout from the RNC is being overblown to a rediculous degree.

Heres whats gonna happen to affect my life...nothing.

I'm taking the week off. I work across the street from MSG and, while I'm very curious to see the ruckus, I don't want to deal with the mess. I might pop into the area since I've got the creds, just to peek around, but for the bulk of the week I'll be chillin.

i forgot to get an ID for our building in chelsea, and I'll probably walk by next week. Otherwise any business with people living in NJ is making plans for them to work outside of the city.

not me. way too expensive. i'm in queens and work in queens. our datacenter is in chelsea and i go in once every 10 days or so to babysit.

only thing i go into the city for is to eat out, krispy kreme, and whole foods market. It's too much of a PITA to drive out to whole foods in manhasset.

Going to work as usual next week - our HR department sent out a notice that it will be understandable if any delays happen getting to work, so no worries there

Good for you but some of us actually work in midtown near 34th street.

As for the snowstorm thing: have you actually been in the city before when snow shuts EVERYTHING down? If you have, you'd understand why the city tends to freak out when a hint of accumulation happens.

Our office in NOHO presumably won't be affected. Although...I saw a sign on the train this morning that they're planning a protect in Union Square, which is up the street from us. That could suck if they start marching or whatever.

I work for the MTA, so while all you guys are home drinking hot choclate during blizzards, I have to actually get to work...same for transit strikes...terrorist attacks...blackouts...natural disasters.

(I was at work on 9/11 (full day) 9/12/01, the day after the blackout, and for every snowstorm since 2000...AAMOF, I couldnt take off next week if I wanted to)

let me say, the panic is totally unfounded.

Digital...where and when are your groups marching?...I'll be doing a little amature photojournalism on Sunday, and would love to capture the moment.

What panic? If anything, most of the people I know are annoyed by all of this.
