Dude, What's That Smell in Your Car!?! - Advice Needed

My roomate left two peaches in the back of his car for a couple of weeks (they were under an old shirt).

Anyhow, the smell finally started to get to him this week and now it's horrible.

He has pulled up the seats and cleaned, steam-cleaned, used odor removers, and febreezed the hell out of it. Still smells like shit.

Any suggestions on what he can do?

Or should we just push the damn thing into the lake.

Be thankful it wasn't milk or vomit.

Those have to be the worst smells in a car, esp in the summertime.

Believe it or not fabric softener sheets. Get some Bounce sheets, place them around the floorboard of the car and let the sun do its work all day on the inside.

Was it the carpet or the back seats that got stinkified?

I would think that it would be easier to srplace the offending item of otherwise clean it real good (remove the seats for cleaning and wash the seat covers in a washing machine or have them dry cleaned).

Thanks, I will tell him to try fabric softener sheets.

Any other ideas?

You may want to find an odor neutralizing chemical. I think it can be either a spray or powder form.

If you only use a fragrance, it helps temporarily but once it wears off you will still have the smell it was covering up. An odor neutralizing chemical will go after the source of the smell.

If the peaches were on carpet or fabric, your friend could go to a Janitorial Supply store and ask them for carpet machine odor enzyme. They carry all sorts of mal-odor enzymes and inhibitors there, similar to what hospitals use, it will help remove the acid and spores in the carpet cause the odor, but may take more than just one treatment. I use it for pet urine smells, and works great. Good luck

If that's too hard, just have him pick some other less offensive odor (smelly gym socks) and load-up the car with those to mask the smell.

And the lesson, kiddies, is to remember to remove the dead hooker from your trunk before she starts to rot.

The OP has been sitting at his computer for OVER SIX YEARS waiting for a decent response. It's a good thing kenbuzz stepped up.

Let us know how it feels to walk out in the sunshine again, OP.

The smell must have killed the dude by now, or maybe he ripped the seats out and is driving the car happily ever after...............................
