mmm, tastes like shit

The sweet taste of crappuccino

A Canadian scientist claims to have proven that the world's most expensive coffee really does taste better because the beans it is produced from have been eaten and defecated by a wild cat.

The Montreal Gazette says Massimo Marcone used taste machines and humans to establish that there really is a difference in taste between Kopi Luwak beans that have and have not passed through a civet cat's digestive system.

The Ethiopian beans, which sell for more than 250 pounds per pound, are craved by coffee fanatics around the world who will often pay more than R65 for a cup of the coffee they produce.

Marcone travelled to Ethiopia to track down the beans where they are found in single lines of faeces in the wild.

"You're looking for a cappuccino. You could get a crappuccino," the University of Guelph professor said.

He says they taste better because digestion breaks down protein, and protein makes the non-digested beans bitter.

He insists there is no health risk in drinking coffee from the digested beans, as there is very little bacteria left on the beans once they are washed, and roasting destroys the rest.

His findings will be published in the Food Research International Journal in September. - Ananova.com

I'm strictly a plain ol' & simple Folger's instant dude, myself!

It's those "Magic Flavor Crystals" that mesmerize me I tell ya!

(Plus, the containers they come in make great bug collection jars for easy observation.)

THEEK! HAS THE HOTS FOR MRS. FOLGERS

Where's my fucking flying car? It's 2004. I was promised a flying car by now.

We're working on machines that taste shit (literally)? Are you kidding me? Get those dudes working on stuff that actually can help me in my life. How about an SUV that doesn't suck up gas (and, as mentioned, flies).

Hell, how about a machine that'll frigging FETCH me my coffee, instead of tasting it for me?

you'd be surprised, but Kopi Luwak is considered the best coffee in existence. I thought it was from a monkey's crap.
I tried to find it once and no one has it in stock. Apparently only a very small amount of it is produced p year. Those darn monkeys need some Ex-lax.

If monkeys are brought in to pick the beans before they go through the cat, does it taste better?

That Dumbass. It comes from Indonesia not Ethiopia. He just roasted up some plain ol' sh**

"Marcone travelled to Ethiopia to track down the beans where they are found in single lines of faeces in the wild." ::

Kopi Luwak comes from the islands of Sumatra, Java and Sulawesi which are part of the Indonesian Archipelago’s island chain. On these Indonesian islands, there's a small marsupial called the Paradoxurus. This marsupial is a tree-dwelling animal belonging to the Sibet family. Once regarded by the Indonesians as pests because they climb into the coffee trees and eat only the ripest, reddest coffee cherries. What these animals eat they must also digest and eventually excrete. Some brazen local gathered the beans, which come through the digestion process fairly intact, still wrapped in layers of the cherries' mucilage. The enzymes in the animals' stomachs, though, appear to add something unique to the coffee's flavor through fermentation. Yes the most expensive…the rarest coffee in the world is partially pre-digested and excreted by the Paradoxurus.

Kopi is the Indonesian word for Coffee and a luwak is. . .

R = South African Rand.

R65 is roughly $10 US.

I'm not completely sure what the cat in this picture is doing. Perhaps making coffee beans?

i found a place in UK that'll sell it to me for $118 for 500g (slightly over a pound) shipped.
I'm so very tempted...
BTW, the Luwak is a Sivet, not a Sibet

Isn't it a civet, not a sivet?

I'd love to hear a review if you try some. I'm not willing, but I am curious. I'm not sure if this is true, but when I first read about this coffee, I was told that originally the beans were collected and used by villagers too poor to drink "real" coffee.

Well, it says, "Civet" on the link, but anyway I look at it, it clearly spells:

"cat-poo-chino" to me!
