UA Frequent Fliers- are you dumping your miles?

Is anyone else considering using their United miles asap? Considering the problems the airline has been having (pensions, labor strife, etc), I'm wondering if the day isn't fast approaching when my miles (100k plus) will become worthless (i.e. if the airline folds, like TWA)

I have a few shorter/cheaper trips on the horizon that I could use them for, but I usually like to wait it out and use them for more expensive tickets. Is anyone else considering redeming their miles quickly?

I'm willing to pay $150 a ticket if people are dying to trade miles in.

I considered it when they began their financial problems but it didn't affect the miles. I have about 100K of them.

Are they really that bad off now? I thought it was Delta that's in big trouble. Wouldn't that help United?

I have around 40K. Probably not gonna do anything with them any time soon.

United is having big problems, and has stated that they're going to default on their pension program. From what I've been reading, it seems like they're so bad at running their business that bad news for their competitors wouldn't necessarily translate into anything good for them.

EDIT: I'm not gonna fix my subject/verb agreement problems above; I just want everyone to know that I know they're there.

I thought Delta was the one big airline that wasn't bankrupt.

United is asking the bankruptcy court to let them trash their employee pension fund. That's why there's alot of hulabaloo going around them right now.

Got about 60K. UA might get smaller in the next few years, but i don't think they'll go under.

even if they go under your miles are most probably safe. the loyalty programs are one of the most valuable assets of an airline. generally another carrier picks it up and merges it with their own...case in point TWA miles became AA miles.

Since my dad is a pilot for United with forced retirement in 2 years, the timing of all this could be really really bad.

I've got over 600K miles, I'm not worried at this point.
