That's terrible. Just because the guy lives in Isreal and can't write proper english, your first thought is to scam him? Take his money and not send him the TV?
For shame.
I expected better from you kvrdave.

Now the real question is what's replacing the [61" Hatatchi Big Screen]? I would think most DVDTalkers are more interested in that than silly email scams.

Ask him you'll agree to the sale if only he:
1) Strips naked
2) Puts the Showgirls SE DVD on his head

I agree....play with this guy a bit.
Tell him to wire the money.
He'll say he can only send a check and that its going to be for more than the sale price and that you should send the excess back.
Tell him you'll have to wait like 90 days for the check to clear

Often you'll see scammers using stolen credit cards to pay for merchandise. You ship it to Africa or some other legal limbo and then the police come knocking on your door. You can string him along a bit to see if he looks legit, but if he flat out insists on using a credit-card to pay then he's probably a scammer. Another sure sign is if he's willing to pay much more for the item than it would normally sell for. (Don't forget to include shipping!) Scammers rely on people's greed to quell any suspicions they might have and fast-track the sale. I'd press him for more details, but view anything he says with skepticism.
P.S. Where he wants you to send the T.V. is probably where he is, if he is a scammer. The australian account could easily have been hacked. (or it may have been sent from a free email service based in Australia)

I wrote
Just got this back.
What should I say next?
The condition is nearly perfect. The bottom of the unit is where the speakers are, and the covering toward the side has had my cat use it for a scratching post a time or two, but is not really noticeable. It is bright and works just like new. I happen to be changing the room around, and it won't fit with what I am doing.
Wouldn't it be a lot cheaper to buy one over there rather than ship one from here? This thing is probably 300 lbs. or so.

Give him your adress and your telephone number, ask him to send the check. Once he sends it and you receive it, tell him that your bank had told you that it might be a scam, so you are sure he'll understand if you hold onto the check for 90 days before sending him the TV, unless he wants you to send the check back.
Of course, he'll most likely want you to send the check back, just string him along (I can't make it to the post office for a week, I sent it two weeks ago, what do you mean you haven't gotten it yet?, I got the check back from the postal inspectors, they want to know why I am sending you a fake check, what should I tell them, etc etc.

derailing the topic a bit - here is the greatest example of all time of stringing along a scammer. The thread is over 10 pages - but well worth it:

If you want to see the stringing along of scammers (though exclusively Nigerian scams), check out www.419eater.com
