GatorDeb thinks out of the box. Do you?

In this thread (which some of you may have missed?)

http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthr...43#post5189043

GatorDeb mentioned that her 911 training taught her to think out of the box.

I've always heard that term but not enough practical applications.

Tell me how you think out of the box so that I too can think out of the box.

I push my office chair out of my cubicle and into the aisle. That's as far as the chains will let me get out of the box.

Ok, take this example.

You are stuck in a box held together by bolts and the only tools you have is a wrench. hot shot

WHAT DO YOU DO? WHAT.DO.YOU.DO?

Thinking outside of the box is just one step away from sleeping inside the box...

Couldn't think of the answer yet? Well then let me tell you. Outside the box thinking would lead you to take said wrench and forget about using it on the bolts. Outside the box thinking would lead you to just using the wrench to bash the side of the box till it ripped open. Yup sir.. that's what Outside the box thinking is...

er.. I think.

At work there's this girl who doesn't know that meaning of box. Every time I work with her, at the end of the day she asks me for her box (she means the safe box to put her money in.) I always am a little amused.

I think outside the box it's when I'm trying to get INTO and INSIDE the box that I have problems.

Is that phrase like the term "proactive"? It is something that people say to make them seem smarter than others?

No, "proactive" means that you do what management tells you to do.

No one is smarter than the Others.

If I think outside the box, I won't be on the same page as everyone else and we won't be able to dialogue effectively.

I think it really means to do something that you know will need to be done before management tells you.

It's a very popular word around my job.
