2004 Oregon Air Show

The air show doesn't officially start until tomorrow, but the Blue Angels were practicing when I got home this afternoon. I took these pics from my backyard:

I'm going to the show on Saturday. I'll post more pics this weekend.

El Scorcho kept complaining about the BA flying by his work. Like he does anything there to be bothered at all.

Seriously, I work within a stone's throw (my arm, not Deftones') of the airport. Bastards shake the shit out of our building all day long.

It was sweet though, I saw 4 blue angels branch off from each other about 300 feet above my head at lunch today.

What time does this start? I have work at 8pm, so maybe I can catch it during the day. Where's the best place to check it out?

Do the Blue Angels visit Portland this time every year? They are always in Seattle the first weekend of August because of Seafair. Sounds like a fun excuse to drive down there. It'd be interesting to see them in a different setting. I've seen them from just about every possible angle here over the years.

Not every year. More like every 3 years or so. They weren't here last year, so they had some lame-ass "Patriots" jet team.
I live about 4 miles from the Hillsboro airport, so my wife will stay home tomorrow and watch from home while I taker her dad and uncle to the show.

The Blue Angels were in Seattle last year when we went to a Mariners game. They were flying over SafeCo field as we got to the ball park:

Ergyu - the show starts tomorrow at 11:00 AM at the Hillsboro airport. You'll be able to see a lot of stuff from the Tanasbourne area. There's a MAX stop at the Washington COunty fairgrounds and general admission is $15.

My dad was career Air Force, so I have loyalty to the Thunderbirds as well. The first time I saw the Thunderbirds, they wre flying F-100s.

If the F-22 is there, I will definitely get pics.

I will be going to the show on Sunday. So if you want to be surrounded by greatness, don't go on Sunday.

I thought the Blue Angels and the Thunderbirds alternate appearances every other year?

That's too bad, but you can always drive to Seattle for Seafair. We get the Blue Angels every year but I haven't seen the Thunderbirds since I was a little kid. We went a year without the Blue Angels because the boring rich snobs who live on Lake Washington were complaining about the noise, so they got the Canadian Snow Birds After that all us poor people demanded that they bring the Blue Angels back.

Last Sunday I went to one of those rich neighborhoods to find a spot to watch the show from and I couldn't believe how few of these people were having deck parties. They basically had an air show and hydroplane races going on in their backyard that a lot of people were paying $25 a pop to see and 9 out of 10 of these mansions' decks were empty

El, when the motorcade rolls by throw something large at it PLEASE.

At least you only have one motorcade coming your way. Kerry is by bus, Bush is via AF1.

Specifically? The Snowbirds fly the Canadair CT-114 Tutor and their website is down so it was a pain in the butt to find that.

C'mon, you have to admit that's no F/A-18.

The plane is old, circa 1966- like me - but it is wild to see 9-plane formations...
