Should I try this? (eating related)

There is a local pub here which has pretty good food has a little deal going on. You can get a 42oz steak with all the trimmings, ie mashed potatoes, carrots, etc. for $59.95. Now if you can clean the plate, you get a free 60oz beer.

So what do you all think. I am not sure what the largest steak I have ever eaten was but probably not even close to that size. Largest one in memory was a 16oz but I handeled that no problem.

I do enjoy a good steak!

I have always heard about steak houses where if you can eat the steak, you eat for free. I have always wanted to go to a place like that

Sounds like fun, sure (well, not to me, but to each his own), but if you have to get the beer that night, there's no way you're going to be able to enjoy it. Unless you can get it injected intravenously.

42 oz is a lot of steak. That's basically a little over 2.5 pounds of meat. That's basically the size of a normal porterhouse for two people at most places.

If you were really hungry, you could pull it off without too much of a problem. I have eaten that much at one sitting, and I'm a thin guy. Just don't fill up on bread.

And a free 60 oz beer is pretty weak as a prize. I mean, that's not more than $10 of beer at most bars.

But for $60 I'd go hit a Ruth's Chris and get a New York Strip instead.

Depending on the quality of the steak, it sounds to me like you're paying $60 for $50 worth of meat and a chance to win $25 worth of beer.

I could do it. But beer isn't my favorite beverage so they'd have to come up with something else.

Who said this was a good steak? It's a big steak, but that doesn't mean anything. This is not even close to eating the whole thing and getting it for free. It's, "Give us $60 and if you eat the whole thing and we'll give you the rest of the 6 pack of Pabst Blue Ribbon left in the fridge."

You can spend half of that, get a really good steak and actually enjoy yourself instead of making yourself sick.

actually, not the best idea. Doing this would shrink his stomach so he wouldn't be able to fit as much food in there as he normally would.

Actually, no . . . do that and your stomach will shrink and you will eat less than you normally would. Eat moderately and often for a couple of days beforehand.

Now that's some good advice. I don't understand the need to stuff yourself after the point of your hunger being sastiated. I don't consider concentarting on not vomiting a proper conclusion to a good meal.

The hook on those deals is usually that you also have to eat all the side crap, too, or it's null and void.

If you have the cash, and you always wanted to try, go ahead and make your day. It might be fun.

Otherwise, take the same $$ and go to a classy steakhouse that doesn't have gimmicks.

seeing how the prize is $5 worth of beer (60oz=5glasses on tap which at many places is $1 a glass or less during happy hour) I'd say don't do it

Hold out for a place that gives you the entire meal for free if you finish it.

A free beer? That's it?

Just get a good meal and a good beer. Save the extra money, and don't worry about bragging rights.

I've gotta go with Dave, Otto, etc. I'd take that same money and get a really nice dinner somewhere and just pay for my bar tab out of the $60. Heck, around here I could take my wife to one of the nicest places for that and we'd both come out full.

There is a place here in Phoenix that has a contest if you can eat 3 of their super burritos (3lbs each) in 30 min, you win $333, a 3 night trip to Mexico, and get to be on Channel 33 (a local Telemundo affiliate). I never tackled it, but they used to have a number of pics on the wall of people who did.

Do you have to eat the fat? I'm surprised nobody's mentioned that movie reference yet.
