What was the name of the killer from...

...the college watchtower? He climbed the tower with a rifle during the middle of the school day, and started shooting randomly.

Who was he?

Thanks. For a little while there I thought it was Charles Starkweather, but knew that wasn't it after I looked his name up.

Strangely enough, I mentioned Whitman to a co-worker of mine today who told me his father's roommate got shot by Whitman. My co-worker's father was a cadet at the Air Force Academy and his roommate's sister went to UT. His roommate asked my co-worker's dad if he wanted to go down to UT for the weekend and meet his sister. At the last minute, my co-worker's dad decided to stay in Colorado Springs. His roommate was going into the bell tower at UT with his mother and sister when Whitman swung around and shot him in the face. He also shot and killed the mother and sister. The roommate survived, but has slurred speech to this day. The last time my co-worker's dad spoke with him, he was running a pub in Australia.

Small world, eh?

I think that it would be this group, though there are a lot of inconsistencies. Quite a few.

Meanwhile, M.J and Mary Gabour, their two sons, and William and Marguerite Lamport were headed up the steps from the 27th floor. They found the door barricaded by a desk. Mark and Mike Gabour pushed the desk away and leaned in the door to see what was going on. Suddenly Charlie rushed at them, spraying them with pellets from his sawed-off shotgun. Mark died instantly. Charlie fired down the stairway at least three more times. Marguerite Lamport was killed; Mary Gabour was critically wounded, as was her son Mike. They would lay where they fell for more than an hour. William Lamport and M.J. Gabour ran for help.

That's a fourth hand story, so I'm not surprised.

OK, Iíve compared the two stories again, they are closer than I originally though.

Your co-workerís fatherís roommate was Mike Gabour. He wasnít there with his sister and mother, he was there with his brother (Mark), mother (Mary), and father (MJ). Two other people were there in the stairway with them.

The brother and mother were killed, and he was critically injured but survive, the father wasnít hit and ran for help. From the other couple, the woman was hit and killed, the guy was unhurt and ran for help with MJ.

Mike Gabour may have had a sister, but she wasn't there.

I'd be lying if I said that the rifle range scene from FMJ wasn't the first thing to pop into my head also.
