Ingrown nails

This weekend I found out that the nail in my right big toe was ingrown. So yesterday I called and looked to make an appointment sometime after work. I got an appointment at this Thursday at the podiatrist.

I am in pain and falling apart.

Make sure you watch as they yank the ingrown part of the nail out.

Ive had ingrown toenails off and on my whole life
never a big deal.. just occassionally a little annoying

i went in to have them removed before.. and the doctors just chopped half the toenail off.. one entire side..
well that didnt do it

from my understanding, its improved alot since then though.. they now put something on the edge of the toenail to keep it from growing that direction anymore.

15-20 years ago.. when i had it done..
i would say yes, because they put me in one of those open toed medical shoe thingees for like 6 weeks

but from my understanding.. you walk out of the office in your own shoes and are good to go now adays

but the doctor will give you more information on that

I had the side of one of my big toenails cut (to get the ingrown part out) and the doctor burned the nail bed so that side wouldn't grow back. He did this because it just wouldn't grow back correctly this was like my third time. It doesn't look bad and you can only tell that it's not a full toenail if you're looking really hard (I'm a lady so my toes are painted and out all summer).

The only thing that bothered me was the shot to numb the toe for the procedure. I have a pretty decent tolerance for paid, but I almost pissed my pants it hurt so bad.

When I had my ingrown toe "fixed" she just wrapped it up in a bandage and said stay off my feet for the rest of the day. I didn't and got a shoe full of blood. Try to stay off your feet for the day so you can heal.

I need to do this. I keep getting ingrown toenails in my two big toes. It's such a nuisance.

When you clip your big toes, do it straight across the top. Not "curved".

i get them on both toenails too
and besides for straight accross.. Ive also been told to try clipping in a curved the other way (more like a V).. supposably that will force them to grow more towards the middle, rather than out..
same way that cutting straight accross forces them to grow straight out

No kidding. Right between the big toe and the second toe.

It feels like a horrible cramp that doesn't stop.

For me the shot was really piercing. It felt like he injected a cold lightning bolt in my foot.

I immediately started shaking. I couldn't keep my foot still. The podiatrist was like, "I thought you've had this before." Yeah, but I didn't remember the shot hurting so badly.

When I had it done about 10 years ago, the doctor kept poking my already sensitive-to-touch toe with the needle, asking if it hurt. If it did, he gave me more of the shot. After about 5 times, he stopped, and the damn thing still hurt like hell when they did everything else!

I've had them before on my big toes... but not for a while. I performed surgery on myself to remove them...

cutting straight across and bigger shoes solved my problem.

Today, I found that I have an ingrown nail in my right thumb.

So, I tried calling the podiatrist's office and seeing if they would help me take care of it. The receptionist abruptly said, "We don't work on hands!" and hung up on me .

Where do I go to get ingrown fingernails taken care of?
