Texas State Quarter... or, "Forget the Alamo!"

This may be old news to some of you, but I just saw it (I did a search but didn't see anything on this). The Texas quarter is now in circulation, and it stinks - but then I knew it would because out of all of the preliminary designs, there were only two that had the Alamo, and one of them relegated it to a mere speck, more like a mint mark than a part of the overall design.

If there is one defining element of Texas history, as a state of the U.S., it's the Alamo. The absence of it on this design is, in my opinion, a damned disgusting shame.

At least it's not too 'busy'. I do like the placement of the star though - it makes the quarter look like a promo piece for the Dallas Stars.

I mean, look at Wisconsin's quarter. Now that's a winner!!

Cheese.

Wouldn't the alamo just show defeat? Maybe I'm just bitter because of the Ca. quarter but the texas one looks good as it is.

The Texas quarter is one of my favorite state quarters

I like it because of its simplicity, and it looks cool with that star on top of the state. Just because the Alamo was the most famous Texas event doesn't mean it has to be on the quarter, that has been the case for other state quarters and they turned out fine.

I saw the Texas one a couple weeks ago, and I don't even live in the US.

Why does the cow have a computer mouse around its neck?

They should've had Ozzy pissing on the Alamo on the back of their quarter.

Due to a poor box office take "The Alamo" was left of the Texas Quarter.

The star is supposed to be over Austin (state capital).. that is why it is not centered

I didn't say it should be centered, I just think the center of the star is a lot closer to Dallas than it is to Austin, so I don't really think they intended it to be over Austin. In any event, it's really the best place to put it, being that is the most open space. I was half joking about the Dallas Stars thing, the placement of the star is fine.

We have the worst quarter of them all. A committee overrode the choice of online voters in Wisconsin to saddle us with that embarrassment.

The "Early Exploration" theme won the vote:

Well that's just flat-out retarded. They wouldn't even let the state's own taxpayers pick out their own quarter.

I am completely shocked that A) the Packers did not make it on the quarter and B) there is no beer on there either.
