Here's a forum ethics question for you

Okay, in the forum rules it specifically prohibits spamming, advertising, etc. So, hereís a question: what about some political threads. Letís say that you work for the Bush or Kerry political campaign. Your job is to promote (advertise) you candidate. You are specifically paid for this. So what if every day you came on a forum and promoted your candidate or maligned the opposing candidate? Would this be spamming?

Just a hypothetical question for you all to ponder. Iím not targeting anyone or suggesting that we get rid of political posts, just wondering.

Sexy people like me don't vote no matter what.

So LilyLilyRose, which one do you work for?

Yes, it makes you wonder sometimes. But they would be wasting their time.

I think the most ardent pushers of their candidates are doing more harm to them than good by turning off people who could be appealed to by reasonable discussion.

Well, considering that I work for the federal government, you might say I work for Dubya. But I would quit instantly if that meant I'd have to vote for him.

It's bad enough that I have to pass a giant picture of him every day. I call it "the shrine"

I guess it's good you didn't work in Iraq then. You probably would have had to have supported your top boss.

Yikes, that sounds very painful and unpleasant. What the hell kind of job is this, exactly?

Then I guess I shouldn't reveal that I'm John Kerry.

re spamming - how about when a member who posts normally has a big announcement?

Like I have a book (The Blacksmith's Gift) coming out VERY soon - will it be spamming if I announce it and then provide a dvdtalkified link to the book?

From my point of view, what you're describing would be acceptable in some conditions, but somewhat futile. It would be acceptable if you were actually discussing an issue or article of some sort and the political implications of it, but just starting a "VOTE FOR RALPH NADER" thread with no reason would be against the rules. Regardless, it would be a mainly futile effort. Has anyone ever changed their poitical opinion based on something posted in a political thread here? I can't imagine it happens often. Most people only go into a political thread if they already have an opinion on the topic, and 99 times out of 100, that opinion probably isn't gonna change based on something somebody else says. Then again, what do I know?

And if it is, what if I, who benefits abolutely none from any sales that Seeker might get, were to post a link dvdtalkified link to the book, and said that every one should take a look?

Well, for Seeker's sake, posting such info in Book Talk would be the Forum equivalent of a tree falling in the forest.

Correct. Which means that there would be absolutely no point in banning natesfortune from this forum.
