AC broken, too damn hot to sleep

God this sucks. I live in Houston and my AC isn't working. Thermometer on thermostat only goes up to 90, and the needle is buried

I'm seriously debating going out to sleep in my car. I just hope they don't tell me they can't fix it until after the weekend.

Yeah, ever since my dorm AC broke down a couple years ago, I've made it a policy to bring a fan wherever I move. Maybe you could stop by a 24 hour store and get a fan? I think walmart and home depot are open 24 hours...

I've got a fan, but it's not enough really. It's not too bad if I leave my sliding glass door open too, but not really sure if I trust my neighbors enough to sleep with that open.

Got a sleeping bag? Is it time for a night under the stars?

Whenever I've had A/C problems, I fall asleep way too easily, but I don't sleep well at all. Thankfully, when that happened here at my "new" place, my bedroom is on second floor...I ended up sleeping outside on the balcony...

my a/c was broken for a bit (and I'm in FL). it sucked, but I could leave the sliding door open at night since I'm on the third floor of an apt complex

but I know your pain, hang in there, it'll be better soon

I'm kind of lucky in a way I guess. If they do tell me it's going to be Monday before it's fixed, I can go stay at either my grandmother's or father's place, and they're all out of town. So, I'll be cool over the weekend, and still not have to stay "with" someone.

What you could do is run a nice refreshing cool bath and sleep in the tub. Just don't put enough water in the tub where you'll drown.

Since your away from your bedroom plug in your electric clock and place it on the edge of the tub so you won't be late for work.

ahhh, I was not aware it was that far away that does make a difference

the bath idea doesn't seem so good- it doesn't take much water to drown, the water would get warm fast, and there would be a lot of pruniness

where in houston do you live? i always thought you lived in beaumont?

if it makes you feel any better, i dont have my a/c turned on right now and i live in houston, too. then again, i am chronically cold and am quite comfortable sitting in 90 degree weather. so yeah, i guess that doesnt help you much since i am voluntarily doing this

I'd rather sleep in my car than the bathtub anyway. It's actually not too bad, I've slept in it quite a few times while travelling back and forth from Maine to TX.

I moved to Pasadena a few months ago so I'd be closer to UH. Had planned on starting there this fall, but that's been pushed back to spring semester.

maine to texas? damn
I suppose the car would be a good alternative. Just make sure that you wake up in the morning before it gets too hot so you don't die in the car like some neglected dog or kid.

Well the point of sleeping in the car would be to have it running with the AC going

interesting. where in pasadena? that used to be my old stomping ground when my ex lived over there. still head that way for dancing and eating several times and played soccer over in deerpark, la porte, and south houston.

edited to add caution about open windows/doors since you only want the bare minimum of the "fresh pasadena air" to enter your house!

I live a cpl blocks off Southmore, between HEB and Wal-Mart if you know where those 2 places are.

Although, it looks like I'll be moving to FL soon. Your AC DOES work, right Hotaru_san?

Not sure how much luck I'm going to have, but, I guess it's time to try and get some sleep before I pass out at the keyboard. Night all, and wish me luck! (My guess is I'm back online in less than an hour )

Keep up the parking break you don't want to roll down to Mexico.

Although the breakfast burritos might be kinda tasty.

Just spent $1400 to replace my central air unit. Of course, it's been one of the coolest summers I can remember in my city so it's not getting any use.
