If one is going to require a recent hostile act against the US, then what makes a right answer? It rules out China, Iran, Cuba.

I don't think China is hostile to the US. Rhetoric is considered hostility. Iran and Cuba have both had recent hostile rhetoric.

Edit to add: I think both of those actions -- particularly the first -- were motivated more by a Russian desire to expand their own sphere of influence than by a desire to undermine the U.S. But the two goals really do go hand-in-hand.[/i]
All of the things you said about Russia (diplomatic relations, open trade, one-on-one meetings) could be said about Venezuela as well.

The invasion of Georgia and the sending of the Russian fleet to Venezuela, to name two within the past year.
Edit to add: I think both of those actions -- particularly the first -- were motivated more by a Russian desire to expand their own sphere of influence than by a desire to undermine the U.S. But the two goals really do go hand-in-hand.[/i]

Frankly, I had great difficulty with that question but that's because when I think of it in terms of a country, I think of more than the government, I think of the people. I could fashion an argument that Iran isn't mostly hostile to the US based simply on how the people view the US - more favorably than the citizens of some of our allies do.
I ended up putting Cuba because I figured it was safe, but as for being really correct....

I really don't consider Venezuela hostile to the US either considering how much oil we joyfully accept from them. Now you could say that the Bush admin stoked the fires down there as well but I don't believe they are inherently hostile.

I mean from the list of answers given for the question. There's 21 names plus the 3 that answered wrong, unless classicman is code for someone else
