I think she has been around for a while but her career is beginning to sky rocket now.

I hadn't even heard of her, so I was shocked when she sold out the Boston Garden arena last fall. I then saw her live in December at the annual KISS-108 concert, where she sang a handful of songs. She sounded great, but it was still crazy to hear 15k teens singing along to bossa nova songs!

I know she's blown up in our household after Alyssa Liu skated to her in the Olympics. I was actually surprised by a few things: how her name is pronounced, that she's Chinese (well before I saw what she looked like) and also how she sounds like she came off the Steven Universe/Rebecca Sugar soundtrack, though I'm sure there's a name for this genre.

Yeah, she's pretty good. My daughter (she just turned 17) isn't much of a fan of the typical pop stuff coming out these days, Taylor Swift, etc., she likes a lot of classic stuff including The Beatles and Queen, so when she gets interested in a current artist, I'm always curious what they sound like. She has good taste in music like her old man. :cool: My son on the other hand has quite eclectic tastes, he plays drums and guitar and he likes a lot of more intense, complex stuff. His current faves are stuff like Cattle Decapitation (technical death metal) and "beatdown" bands like Knocked Loose. :lol: (I introduced him to the former, the latter he found on his own)

She did a NPR Tiny Desk concert that is worth a watch, I think that was my first exposure to her.

It basically features a bunch of WAsians (White mixed Asians): Liu, Hudson Williams, Havana Rose Liu, Chase Sui Wonders, Megan Skiendel and Lola Tung.
