Music venue opening practically in my backyard!
 

If you've read my other posts you know I've lived in the same apartment for over 22 years and have outgrown it, been wanting to move for a while but this might actually make me stay a while longer:

Around the corner from me when I moved in back in 2002 was some industrial building which I never knew the purpose of; it was torn down early last year and a new building has been going up in its place. Turns out it is going to be a semi-major concert venue called Channel 24, named as such because it's on 24th Street. This is so close to my apartment that it would probably take me longer to ride my bike there and lock it rather than just walk. Some in the neighborhood aren't happy about it because of the crowds it's going to attract and there really doesn't seem to be suitable parking nearby, but I don't mind crowds being around too much. Only thing that might suck is if I get home from someplace during a show I don't go to, and then can't find a parking space.

The first show in about 2 weeks is a country singer I've never heard of, I would've gone to that anyways but it sold out quickly. The 2nd show is Tycho which I've bought tickets for, don't know a lot about them but their music is electronic which I like, and one member is from Sacramento. 80s group Madness is coming later (one of my favorites), and I also bought a ticket for Primus in a couple months (not a huge fan of them but will likely enjoy the show). Tickets are about $60 each which could eat into my income if I went to everything, but being so close it almost seems a waste not to go anything I have even the slightest bit of interest in. I've half-jokingly wanted to ask them to sell season passes for the people who live nearby just so we can go to everything that we possibly have time for.

The first "really big" show there seems to be Death Cab for Cutie (who I don't know a lot about but do know where their name came from), that sold out within minutes.

Tycho is amazing and phenomenal live, a true favrotie if mine, enjoy.

I'm not sure I'd want to live next to a concert venue. I've seen what people do in those areas, and heavy traffic is the least of the problems. Cool that you're able and willing to check out the live music though.

Social Distortion will be there. I like those guys a lot.

This is a mixed bag thing. I love live music, hate the commute, but wouldn't want to live a stone's throw from it due to traffic and peopl,e etc. I hope you can't hear the music in your house from the new venue. :(

Lower half of the picture: The Casbah. Best music venue in San Diego. Live music nearly every night of the week. You can't even imagine the number of famous acts who have graced the stage here. From Nirvana (albeit before the move to this address) and beyond.

Upper half of the picture: The worst apartment in all of San Diego.

See, I wouldn’t mind that if they at least had SOME music I liked. I’d never have to worry about complaints about my sound system being played loud if I lived there; that’s why I don’t complain when my neighbors are loud either.

I’d be happy if I could actually hear the music from down the street at home, don’t know how soundproof the building is but it was made for that purpose.

Long-time Sacramento people might remember the Cal Expo Ampitheater in the 80s, it was an outdoor venue with lots of big names. It closed because people in the nearby apartment buildings complained about the noise! I certainly wouldn’t mind hearing music for free, even if it was a band I hated I could say mean stuff back at them even if they didn’t hear me.

I'm close enough to Arrowhead Stadium we could hear The Who, U2, and Pink Floyd sitting on the front porch. You could hear it but not enjoy it. When someone was speaking between songs it was clearer. Again, it wasn't worth listening to. Go in the house and couldn't hear it all.

Back in the 80s, I lived about 6 blocks from the Country Club in Reseda, California. Despite its name, they booked a lot of punk, new wave and metal bands. I went to a lot of shows there and usually walked because it was so close. The building has since been converted into a church.
