Bummer to hear. My deluxe CD arrived on time and my vinyl arrived just fine today.

Jesus, I really like the songs/performance on this album, which is why it's especially disheartening that the production/mix is so bad - like, it's unlistenably bad. It's quite a feat of production to make an album the listener likes but does not want to listen to. Kudos to you, Andrew Watt, kudos!

Re: Pearl Jam - Dark Matter (4/19/24)

Listened to the album last night - wow, I consider this their first album since 2000 (Binaural).

I actually like seven songs on this album and the album in whole is great to listen to.

As far as "Something Special" goes, while not a song I would listen to on the regular, it's nowhere near as bad as "Sirens".

For those who don't know: The song "waiting for Stevie" got it's title because of...Allegedly, the following:

"Apparently, Eddie Vedder and Andrew Watt started writing this because they were bored while waiting for Stevie Wonder to show up to record his parts on the "Earthling" album, hence the title of the song."

Great album - well done and about time.

Pretend I don't know anything about audio mixing, record producing, metallurgy, engineering, or physics, and just tell me what the heck you mean here.

Top one is the atmos mix (which is what is should sound like - but even that is low on dynamics), bottom one is streaming/CD and vinyl isn't much better.

Re: Pearl Jam - Dark Matter (4/19/24)

Quite the tour kickoff last night - they played 9 out of 11 songs from the new album. And nothing post-Yield, other than those nine.

Re: Pearl Jam - Dark Matter (4/19/24)

Looks like only one post '98 non-Dark Matter track last night (Quick Escape, off of Gigaton). Eight DM tracks, including the live debut of Got To Give. Looks like we'll be waiting for Waiting For Stevie a bit longer...

Then, the album played again with lyrics and visualization.

The visualizations reminded me of the visualizations from the old winamp geiss music visualizer, only higher-resolution and less responsive to the actual music. At one point for half a song, there were no lyrics, as if to say, yeah, we have no idea what he's singing, either.

We both liked it.

All of the visualizations have been released on Pearl Jam's YouTube channel / Vevo music.

I remember Beck did this with Hyperspace and I'm sure other artists do this, too.

Here are a few of the songs:

It looks like they're using a screen on this tour too... I assume those similar or exact elements being used. I wonder if they're pondering the idea of a future residency at Sphere.

Things change but Stone has come out against that idea.

Re: Pearl Jam - Dark Matter (4/19/24)

It's crazy to see "got to give", "Won't tell", & "Upper hand" on those set lists as they're the 3 worst songs on the new album.

Also, the black and red marble vinyl looks hot pink, but if you hold it up to light it looks as advertised. No more red vinyls for me - they never look good.

Re: Pearl Jam - Dark Matter (4/19/24)

Gotta say they're doing all right! I'm starting to actually look forward to the shows later this fall..until I remember they are at Wrigley! Live debut of Waiting For Stevie completes the playlist for the new album, too.

Wrapping up listening to Vancouver Night 2 this morning, and they are sounding great, too.

Oh and 10 Club has (or at least had, yesterday - I'm sure it sold out in 10 seconds) the "Indie Exclusive NY Edition" vinyl or whatever they call it available on their website. Kinda cool that they make exclusive editions purportedly to get people out to support independent stores...and then sell them on their website!

I thought they were non-transferable in most markets... Only fan to fan face value resale.

Re: Pearl Jam - Dark Matter (4/19/24)

Exactly... so how do they get around it by selling on Stubhub?

I thought only New York and Denver (maybe one other) didn't restrict resale.

Beats me. My tickets have Transfer Tickets button disabled. Only allowing Sell Tickets (which is Ticketmaster).
Looks like Seat Geek has tickets for sale all over too (Above and Below Face value)

“Transferless transfers” or shared wallets.
The resale tickets don’t get transferred at all. They get hosted on a website. Something like secure.tickets or verified-tickets.com. The buyer gets sent a link to the site that pulls the ticket with a rotating barcode ticket. Then scan that at the venue. It never goes to a Ticketmaster account. You also can’t add it to a wallet because it lives on the web. It’s the scalpers workaround. It’s how U2 general admission tickets were able to be resold outside of TM. It’s not 100% guarantee but the success rate is extremely high. U2, Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, Hozier, Noah Khan all tried but scalpers gonna scalp. The original workaround was either “renting” access to a TM account with the tickets or selling the entire TM account to the buy. This was a more reliable method they developed. You will see something like “This ticket will be sent to your email address” on the listing.

Generally I’d say fuck those scalpers but this is the only way (sometimes) to unload overpriced platinum (or in this case PJ Premium) tickets when transfers are restricted. Some guy spends $700-$900 on a ticket and TM will only let you list it at that price on Fan2Fan exchange. They are free to lower their platinum tickets though.
