Re: Jimmy Buffett dead at 76
I saw him on Fallon last year and he seemed and looked ok

Re: Jimmy Buffett dead at 76
I know he's had some health issues over the past couple years as he had to cancel occasional concerts. I don't think it was ever disclosed exactly what those issues were, he seemed like he wanted to keep it private.
One of those guys I always wanted to see in concert, but just never did. |
Re: Jimmy Buffett dead at 76
was never really my cup of tea but admired how the guy lived and a couple of the tunes are iconic.
seems on brand to have left once the summer was over. RIP Jimmy. |
Re: Jimmy Buffett dead at 76
His was one of the funnest concerts I'd attended. It was outdoors in San Diego. The whole atmosphere was amazing. So many blowup pools and flamingos. And to top it off, he brought out Brian Wilson for a song. Such a wonderful surprise.

Re: Jimmy Buffett dead at 76
I was glad I finally made it to one of his concerts (they always sold out so fast). The funny thing is, the year after we saw him, we caught the touring version of his Broadway show in (2017). We rescheduled it from our original date because the Houston Astros were in the World Series and we didn't want to miss a game. We were able to grab front row orchestra seats for the new date. We normally bolt for the exits during the curtain call, but this time an usher stopped us and said "You might want to stick around". We did, and lo and behold we got a 4 song set from Jimmy himself (who was in town for some reason). So this was the last time we got to see him :(

Re: Jimmy Buffett dead at 76
I think of him every time I hear "Escape (The Piņa Colada Song)". (Sunny in Philly reference ;) )
Was never into his music, but respect his musicianship and that he gives his audience a great time every time he performs. The barrage of older musicians exiting this earth continues - which also continues to make me feel old. |
Re: Jimmy Buffett dead at 76
My Labor Day party will include margaritas, cheeseburgers, and my Jimmy Buffet playlist on repeat.

Re: Jimmy Buffett dead at 76
RIP
Never got to see him live but enjoyed his music. Sad to see him go. :( |
Re: Jimmy Buffett dead at 76
Sad news. Saw him several times over the years, starting with a picnic at the Waikiki Shell with my HS buddies when they let you bring your own cooler of beer into the show back in the 80s. Had an amazing time and became a fan. Saw him probably 5 times in total, including 2 or 3 times in Las Vegas where he plays the MGM Grand Garden Arena every October (eventually my wife said "I don't want to see him any more" so it's been well over a decade since my last Buffet show). But he was always fun and put on an enjoyable (at least to me) show, even if it never changed that much. Sad to hear of his passing. The guy knew how to entertain his fans.

Re: Jimmy Buffett dead at 76
He was reportedly worth a billion dollars.
I know he did well with the merchandising and restaurants and such, but didn't know he did that well. Damn. |

Re: Jimmy Buffett dead at 76
I was always the weird kid listening to music before my time and Jimmy was right there in the thick of it. In time, Margaritaville became the song my mom and I could connect over, we even danced to it at my folks anniversary party a few years back.
Not just simple love songs but also sometimes just singing about the things we take for granted like a good burger and a frozen cocktail. |

Hes no Coconut Pete.

Re: Jimmy Buffett dead at 76
I've always been a huge fan of Come Monday, I think it's his best song. I'm very happy that if he had to head out and leave us, it was at the start of the Labor Day Weekend.

Re: Jimmy Buffett dead at 76
8:57 AM PT -- Sources with direct knowledge tell TMZ ... Jimmy was diagnosed with skin cancer 4 years ago that turned into lymphoma, and we're told that was the cause of death. As one close friend put it, "He lived his life in the sun, literally and figuratively." Jimmy began receiving hospice care last Monday and there was an outpouring of love from friends and family. We're told a week ago Sir Paul McCartney came to Jimmy's house and sang to Jimmy's family. |
Re: Jimmy Buffett dead at 76
Hate to say this, but since I heard Jimmy Buffett passed away, "AIDSburger in Paradise" has been running through my head all day.

Re: Jimmy Buffett dead at 76
I saw him in concert at the amphitheater in Dallas a long time ago. It was a fun party-like atmosphere and he was a great entertainer. "Why Don't We Get Drunk And Screw" was basically my college's theme song. His greatest hits album was in my regular rotation for a good while, but it's been a bit since I've given it a spin. Will have to remedy that.

Never got to see in concert but RIP.

Re: Jimmy Buffett dead at 76
I saw Blue Oyster Cult last night and they dedicated "Don't Fear the Reaper" to Jimmy Buffett. No joke.
