Re: U2 "Achtung Baby" Vegas shows

Didn’t know there was thread for this. I went early in the month. Got my tix back when announced thru the U2 fan club. Joined just to get tix. We were upper, nose bleed and loved it. Might try to hit another show. Most amazing concert/show I’ve seen.

Well, I don't love this news at all :

Edit : That tweet is wrong. The article states a few times that Dolan thought Vegas was the perfect place to open the first Sphere because of it's vigorous tourism market.

The Sphere CFO did resign after Dolan threw a tantrum and was yelling and screaming at him. Apparently he calmly walked out can sent the lead council his resignation letter.

I'm not sure they can charge much more than they currently are. The movie "Postcard from Earth" is between $50-250 (for a 50 minute flick). U2 is between $270-1500. Not sure the next headline can get much more. Maybe they can eventually have a sports book and show Sunday and Monday NFL games.

Re: U2 "Achtung Baby" Vegas shows

Looks like there is only gonna be one Sphere for a while.

London rejects twin of Las Vegas Sphere: reports

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — It appears Sphere will be a Las Vegas-exclusive for now as London’s city government has rejected a proposed twin structure being built in England’s largest city.

The landmark, which made quite a splash at the inaugural Las Vegas Grand Prix, is apparently a thing that happens in Vegas that will stay in Vegas as Sadiq Khan, the mayor of London, rejected the proposed British version of the enormous LED ball, a BBC report indicated Monday.

On July 4, Sphere’s so-called exosphere illuminated for the first time in Las Vegas. The structure’s 1.2 million LED pucks can each display 256 million colors. Local politicians said they did not anticipate the brightness of the building would cause a problem.

“It’s not a super intense light,” Tick Segerblom, Clark County Commissioner, said of Sphere in July, just after the exosphere lit for the first time. Drivers in the area initially complained of some distracted driving — individuals slowing down their vehicles to take photos and video of the new attraction. He confirmed that local government officials had collaborated with officials from Sphere Entertainment to ensure that the building followed brightness and safety regulations.

It appears, however, that London’s local government disagreed. City documents called the potential structure a “detriment to human health” that would cause “significant harm” to “hundreds” in the area, the report indicated.

According to the BBC reporting, a spokesperson from Sphere Entertainment said: “While we are disappointed in London’s decision, there are many forward-thinking cities that are eager to bring this technology to their communities. We will concentrate on those.”

Re: U2 "Achtung Baby" Vegas shows

After the Headbanger's Boat cruise earlier this month and another 5 shows in the two weeks after, I kind of ran of out steam to plan out a Vegas trip for the U2 show. I put the tickets up for sale on the Ticketmaster site, and before I even got a confirmation of the listing, the tickets sold, so there are some active bots looking to scoop up tickets or something. I'll keep an eye out for the next round of tickets for March and April.

Re: U2 "Achtung Baby" Vegas shows

U2 wrapped the first leg of the U2:UV Achtung Baby Live at Sphere residency on Nov. 4 with unprecedented box-office results. According to figures reported to Billboard Boxscore, U2’s 17 Sphere shows in Las Vegas grossed $109.8 million and sold 281,000 tickets. Opening night at Sphere was Sept. 29. U2 played another show the next night, 12 more in October and three in the first week of November. The gross and attendance figures average out to $6.5 million and 16,500 tickets per show. The average ticket price across all shows was $390.97.

I honestly thought the average ticket price would be higher but they probably had a lot of fan club seats which didn't have the platinum pricing. It definitely will be for the next phase.

Yeah, for GA, it's face value, I get back exactly what I paid. There is no way to transfer the ticket, so I'm not sure how Stubhub can have listings for GA, I didn't want to risk selling there to find out how it's handled.

Re: U2 "Achtung Baby" Vegas shows

Well that was amazing. Floor was great. Loads of space. We got in at 745 or so.

visuals are wild. They really ramped it up for the end.

bono did rainy night in soho for Shane macgowan. Was cool.

only thing I felt it lacked was the crowd singing didn’t feel as loud as usual. Not sure if that’s just the crowd or acoustics.

Glad you enjoyed it. I can't do floor any more, but good to hear it wasn't too crowded down there.

The last set of shows for U2 have been announced. Phish has a four night stand in mid April.

To see them again? I'm one-and-done for this show. It was fabulous.

Passing on Phish. Waiting to see what comes next.

This would be the first sport-related use of the Sphere interior :

Re: U2 "Achtung Baby" Vegas shows

I would definitely see it again if it didn’t require a cross country trip. It would be too much for me to do a 24 turn around trip to the western part of the country.

I thought Dana White was going to put on a fight there? It must be after the NHL draft. I don’t think either are great use cases.

I'm surprise the Killers aren't planning to do some shows there, they seem like they'd be a perfect fit

Re: U2 "Achtung Baby" Vegas shows

Amazing show.. basically if you made IMAX ultimate extreme with a band accompaniment. Was given a tour backstage. The technology is next level. Each band member has their own video team. As I mentioned to the person giving the tour, good luck to Phish.

The crowd definitely skews older. Fuckin' assholes. Few got drunk and were escorted out and there was also one medical emergency... before the show even started!

Re: U2 "Achtung Baby" Vegas shows

Also Phish is like four shows, and there's still no word of any other shows after that one. Weird that we haven't heard anything else since, besides rumors.

Maybe someday, but they're just launching a 20th Anniversary World Tour right now, so a Sphere residency wouldn't be for over a year.

My friend works for the company that put the show together (they also put together Adele's Vegas residence).

Killers said Yes to a Vegas residency, but not at the Sphere. I'm not surprised-- they represent Old School Vegas .

Re: U2 "Achtung Baby" Vegas shows

Why’s the Sphere having just a hard time booking acts? U2 is over in two months, Phish is only four day stand and Dead and Co the only rumor with some teeth which will also be limited. The summer and fall are empty. It can’t be that expensive to produce a show compared to a normal show can it.

Yeah. It’s a bit surprising. Got to get me those killers tickets. Although will be hard to beat seeing Brandon solo in a tiny sf club.

going to u2 next Wednesday for round 2. Round 3 I won’t make as a work trip is taking me out of town.
