michaelklingAs usual, I sat working at my office in Marburg, Germany this morning when the postman rang and delivered a whole load of parcels - among them, much to my surprise, the CD version and two yellow vinyl copies of 72 Seasons. What have I done to deserve this, except having placed the order as early as November 28, 2022? Am I THE LUCKY BASTARD (TLB) then?

I've listened to the whole album. Good news is that there are a couple really good songs on here. I enjoyed it overall but if I'm going to be honest, half of the songs seem indistinguishable from each other.

Still early but I think this is my favorite Metallica album since the Black Album. It might be tied with it actually. I like all of the songs and they work even better as a whole. The only criticism I can think of is the song "Lux Aeterna" feels like it is in the wrong slot. I think it would have worked even better earlier in the track list.

Huh, color me surprised. Album's actually not bad.
It's no classic by any means, but good enough to give some time to.
Of course, like most albums over 60 minutes, it could use a good bit of editing, and would've been a better album for it.
Weird because now they're saying it won't be in stores/ship until the 19th.

I've liked what I've heard so far, but ugh it's a long album. I like my albums more short and sweet these days, but then again Metallica has never been a band who released short albums.

After a few listens through I like where Lux Ęterna is placed now. My five favorites so far are:
Chasing Light
You Must Burn
Inamorata
Room Of Mirrors
Too Far Gone?

Only listened to it once, on a small speaker system. I liked what I heard, and am looking forward to hearing it on a larger system when I'm not working.

Meh, it's fine. Mostly it feels like old dudes thinking slow means heavy. The songs' structure with riff-to-different-riff for the sake of making long songs makes it all sound quite unstructured and messy.
Worst of all though is Kirk Hammett. Dude it just completely irrelevant as a guitarist at this point and the bands' weakest link. This album could have been called "72 Shitty solos" and it would be fitting, because the are all really shitty. Embarrassingly so.

Re: Metallica - 72 Seasons / World Tour 2023-2024
Ok before I list my thoughts I have to say I'm a Metallica fan. The only album I dislike is St Anger, everything else is good to amazing. I think they are pioneers and they deserve the success and the accolades in metal that they have.
I started this album 6 times and only made it halfway through You Must Burn! before giving up each time. Album starts well enough. I mentioned when Suicide Silence came out that I didn't enjoy that track, but in the context of the album it is pretty good. Then comes Sleepwalk My Life Away. The back to back of Sleepwalk My Life Away and You Must Burn! is atrociously boring. Two songs that go nowhere, bring the album to a complete stand still, with uninspired lyrics/drumming/guitar. I can't imagine how someone listened to this album and thought god damn these two songs need to go back to back, much less make the album. 14 minutes of pain. I can't explain to you how much I hate those two songs. These are the 4th and 5th songs of a 12 song album too which is why I kept quitting.
I finally just started skipping those two and we get to Lux Aeterna, which I love. Crown of Barbed Wire is next, and they go right back to the style of Sleepwalk and Burn!. I get it, Metallica don't have to go fast to be good. But a slower song has to have strong writing and some good solos. They follow this up with Chasing Light, which picks the tempo up a bit and has a pretty decent solo. Lyrics are dumb as hell though. I said when Darkness Had a Son was released that it might be the worse Metallica song. I was wrong, I hadn't heard Sleepwalking and Burn! yet. Too Far Gone and Room of Mirrors I really enjoy. Inamorata is decent, but 100% doesn't need to be 11 minutes.
Overall this is a bloated album that has been an issue for Metallica for awhile. I'm fine with 6 minute songs, but their has to be 6 minutes of material there. I'm disappointed because I know they have the ability to write great songs which I feel would really offset some of my issues with the album. I know people shit on Lar's drumming and I never really felt he deserved as much hate, but the drum playing sounds the same on half the songs on the album. Overall I would rank this just above St Anger.

Literally just went to Tadget to pick up general house supplies and they had this vinyl in stick, I didn't know target sold the red and black version - I snatched it up quick.
